i have an iphone with applecare i recieved as a gift. It was activated on at and t. However now its unlocked with tmobile and the phone is somewhat having issues with the power button and other issues.

I want to call applecare and get it fixed, what will they ask and all. Cant i say that i have not been using the phone because it has not been working correctly.

its under apple care until 2010

also if they ask for a number cant i give them my friends number who has an iphone activated. i heard of someone doing that when they called applecare and it worked

obviously i am going to restore the phone back to factory condition i used pwnage so they cant tell it was ever unlocked?

    help

isn't your iPhone serial number linked to your phone number?
they won't be tricked by using your friends' number.

Not only restore to factory condition but also do a erase all content and settings after the restore. From what I have read, a restore does leave traces of the jailbreak unless the full erase and reset is done. Maybe others can confirm this.

You should do a restore from DFU mode rather than a typical restore.

So my phone is being sent in for repair

Haha, I hope you revirginized your phone and activated it under her phone number with an AT&T SIM in it. Otherwise you're going to either get the phone back as it was, or you're going to get a fat bill and your warranty voided as well as your AppleCare.

...Or keep the sim, and send them the phone only. If they question you about it, just tell them that you thought you needed to keep it for the new phone.

However, your story still doesn't jive.

i sucessfully sent in my iphone for repair. i had the applecare information and cell number and address from the person i bought the iphone from. therefore i gave apple the number and said that number has a 3g on it now and i was given this as a gift and i cannot get it to turn on and it wont work correctly. however when they sent out the box is says the name of the orginal owner but comes to my address. they also told me to keep my sim card, just send in the iphone for repair, so i passed the hardest part.

i use t mobile and i am debating on selling the iphone when i get it for a 3g and use a rebel sim or a gevey. However i dont know if the 3g is that much better but it would be much easier to use the sim unlock then to keep software unlocking everytime a new firmware comes out. plus all the cases i can find only fit the 3g.

my biggest concern is i am exstremly lucky with having the paper work and the girls number so this iphone will always be able to be replaced over covered i think. i am wondering if i get the iphone replaced and i unlock it again and somehting happens in the future if apple will repair it again becuase it will not be activated on at and t sense the first time the lady had it. i doubt it though i could just say i ended up never activating it and saying my girlfriend just uses it as a ipod or something. They would buy it im sure, they bought it this time no problem.

if i buy a 3g iphone of someone and they dont have a iphone on there account anymore and i call apple and say its not activated and give them the number and the person is not using an iphone i would be screwed. or if i dont have the orginal number the iphone was activated on i would be screwed. i would have to have a friend call it in after switching it out with his iphone.

so i am debating if i want to sell my 2 g when they fix it and get a 3g and risk the warranty
    what do you guys think

I think you haven't answered the questions as to why you refer to this phone in one post as a gift and in another as a purchase from this woman.

Have you read any of the other posts on this thread?

sry about that. i told applecare i recieved the iphone and applecare as a gift. i bought the iphone for a woman, which she gave me her applecare cetificate and stuff. allowing me to use it if the iphone were to go bad and it did.

so i lucky remembered her number and gave it to applecare saying yes the phone was activated on this number then i said the lady was related to me upgraded to the iphone and when she gave me this phone i went to use it and it would not work

Just so you know, you can't use an iPhone as an iPod without first either activating it, or jailbreaking it, so that probably wouldn't be the right thing to tell Apple.
