What do the menubar icons mean?

So I'm staring at my huge new screen and wondering what all the little icons mean in the menu bar? One is left over from my old mac. How do I get rid of it?

I tried getting to the FAQ/Rules but perhaps they are being worked on at the moment and I can't get through.

Left to right:
UPS battery supply; Time Machine; Bluetooth; Bluetooth DUN; AirPort; Speaker Volume; Day & Date; Spotlight.
Yours may be different. Click on each one to what it is.

You can drag icons off the Menu Bar via pressing COMMAND and dragging them off.

And if that method doesn't work (which it won't for a number of third-party menubar addons), then you'll need to determine what it is and disable or uninstall it.
