Battery life has been far better on the 5 than the 4s so far

Got

8 hours, 30 minutes usage
1 day, 2 hours standby

After first charge and currently

1 hour, 53 minutes usage
12 hours standby

I have a 4S but after iOS 6 my battery life was terrible 5 hours max. I restored the phone then used my I cloud backup for my pics and such. This got my battery life back to 6 1/2 to 7 hours depending on usage.

I also downloaded an app called "carat" it makes a report and in a week or so the app will tell you what is killing the battery. It also gives you a "j score" that you can compare (mine was 71 average being 50). Regardless it put my mind to ease, I think I use tapatalk too much....

Usually get an average of at leaset 8 hours of usage with about 24 on standby. That obviously varies though the more I use it. This is great for me and not really an inconvenience at all, I don't know how many people would consider that bad battery life. I take it the poll is based on usage, not standby?

This doesn't sound right at all. I get 7-8 hours usage with 2 days standby, mostly video streaming, audio streaming, web browsing and some 3D gaming.

I would try a restore on your phone, a couple full battery cycles and take it back if you see no improvement.

iPhone 5 battery when working properly will exceed the SIII and Nexus phones easily.

How is the service in your area? 2-4 bars? AT&T or Verizon? My AT&T phone drains pretty fast. Mostly on 4g and bad reception areas

I usually get the same amount of usage, but 48ish hours standby? At most I'll get 13.5 hours of usage and 1 day and 1 hour of standby. Are you using your phone for 4 hours each day or something?

I am getting just about bang on 8.5 hours of usage, with most of that being calls and quite a lot of Wifi and 3G surfing.

It goes on charge as soon as I get home from work. Usually gets to fully charged by the time I go to bed and when I wake up at 5am it's still 100%-99%. If I've been away from some charging facilities, then it usually gets down to about 5-10% by mid-afternoon, so usually have to charge it for a couple of hours in the middle of the day.

This is worse, but not too much worse, than the (awful) Blackberry I had previosuly. Certainly a good trade off for being a much better device.

Full service LTE but in Toronto on Fido.

Yeah pretty much.. 4 hours a day over two days. Not a big talker, mostly playing audio, email, browsing, etc.

The battery life on my iPhone 5 is excellent. Yesterday I spent 2 hours playing games on it and I only got down to 80% from full charge.

Wow that is good. Currently at 9.5 hours with 14% left.
Mostly youtube and browsing.

The people getting 5 hours of battery life either have their brightness too far up or they aren't closing their apps. That happened to me when I first got my iphone 4. I have the brightness on the 5 just about right and I always close my apps when I done using them, I get about 7.5 hours of usage each day. If I'm lucky 8

Firstly, depends where you are. Are you using 4g,LTE, or WiFi. Also depends are you playing games, getting live data, steaming music etc.
So there is no exact answer . I would say 7+

My phone battery hits 20% at around 7 hrs 15 minutes, reliably. And by this time, I'm ready for bed, so it is lasting me the entire day with 20% to spare. That, to me, is acceptable.

how are people saying 8 hours is acceptable? thats great if you reach that. 7 hours is what mine is usage wise on average in 5 charges. Reached over 8 hours twice though.

Most of my activity is web surfing and email (4 accounts all push) and streaming music while driving. On wifi most of the week days at home and work. On lte on the weekends when I'm out and about. This was for this weekend. I'm pretty happy with my battery life so far.

Btw, I'm getting this AFTER I restored and set up as new. Wasn't getting this when I first got the phone and restored from backup.

I usually get 2 days, but that's probably because I don't use it for about 4 hours a day.

I just want all day battery life.

I agree. As long as I can make it all day and then charge overnight, I'm fine. When I first got my 5 the battery life was awesome. I still don't ever get to low battery on days I work, and only sometimes on days I don't, but I guess that's what happens as you add more stuff.

Last year I had to be on campus for 12-14h a day and my phone would never last.

This is about where I am towards the end of the day. Most of the time im using the phone to read rss feeds and/or listen to music (on the phone and through pandora). I can go a second day if I need to but I usually charge it every night.

I will say for the first few charges the percentage fluctuated much more drastically and I needed to charge it after less than a day.

Music playback pollute the figures in all fairness. They count toward usage but the phone is effectively doing very little.

I think the real averages seem to be 7-8 hours on WIFI usage or 5-6 hours for those of us on 3G.

I get anywhere from 5-7 hours of usage (always have to charge it before bed, and sometimes during the day). But I use it quite a bit...always on LTE/4G, Pandora in the subway with intermittent signal, Twitter, texting, checking apps, etc.

I honestly don't understand the never ending obsession with battery life. Just like everything else, it really depends. Some days my phone lasts all day, some days it doesn't. I know this, so I have multiple chargers at my disposal. I honestly couldn't tell you what my battery life is like because I just use my phone! If it needs to be charged, I charge it. Nuff said.
