1. Molecular biology
2. University employed as a Post Doc.
3. Molecular biologist.
4. Very much. You work a bit too much though, and stress about it, but you learn to cope with it.
5. ~80.000$ (Just finished my PhD)

Are you only capable of painting broad strokes?

By all means, disagree with my stated views if you'd like.

Do you have something to say, or are you only capable of asking rhetorical questions? Is there an argument forming inside of your head, seething, just waiting to come out? Say it, before I forget about this thread.

I only asked you one question, and it certainly wasn't rhetorical.

Seething arguments?

Glad to hear someone who's in a similar situation. I've heard (from friends) that it's really a step up from your masters. So I'm going to take a few years to work and then I'll consider my PhD. However I want to stay in research and not really teach. If that changes though, may consider it. That's one thing that I don't like. We (or at least I) work both on and off the clock. I guess that's how it is with our field.

Well, it is my impression that the pay is better in europe, where I am from, so i cant promise you a future fortune. ;)

Fine... I'll bite.

1) Software Engineer
2) Run my own, do consulting, and have a full-time job. I don't sleep.
3) I break stuff, then fix it. Or I tell other people how to break stuff and fix it. Depends on the job at the time (see above). Sometimes I get to boss people twice my age around... that's always fun.
4) Yep, I like it.
5) Stereotypical High-school dropout computer nerd.... so... a lot

It is interesting to see what sort of careers people are in. Not so sure about questions 2 & 5, but its still interesting.

Was just curious as to what our forum readers/members do on a day to day basis. Something I've always wondered. If you'd like to participate please post:

1) What you do
2) Which company (optional if you don't want to give too much info)
3) Job description
4) If you like your job or not
5) Salary (if you're not comfortable, vote on the poll)

I'll start off:

1) Clinical Research Associate (CRA)
2) Withheld - but I work at a hospital. Not with the doctors, more of an office type of job.
3) Work with a multidisciplinary team (Scientists, Some doctors, other CRA's) to collect data and publish papers according to research grants we get. Currently we're investigating factors that prevent people from being successful with weight loss
4) Love it. Did my Masters in Science and decided research was the route I'd go
5) 64,000CAD pre-tax.

1) Sr. Systems Engineer
2) Err...
3) Everything. Hadoop. A lot of in-house tool development. Process Automation.
4) Love it - as long as I have a juicy project. Work 100% from home. HQ is in a different state. Only have an AAS, but 10 or so years experience.
5) $101k USD

Well, then. Yes, I am only capable of painting broad strokes. :D

It's my personal way of coping with things that annoy me. And as circumstances are currently, there are more than a few things that annoy me.

Good to know; I'll keep it in mind.

I know plenty of people who act as you describe (Chinese and otherwise), and plenty of people who don't (Chinese and otherwise). And believe me, the former annoy me quite a lot too.

As you probably gather though, I don't take kindly to over generalizations, so I gave you a hard time.

I now return this thread to its regularly scheduled conversation...

So if I said "you seem smart", you wouldn't like that as a generalization from viewing your post activity and comments?

OT: I'm unemployed atm

It wasn't intended to be. It was a question.

Why would you think that is a generalization? You're simply forming an opinion of a single person based on observation (whether or not it is accurate). Presumably you are not classifying the person into a group and drawing broad conclusions about the group?

Sorry to hear of your unemployment. Weren't you going to join your bro's business? Are you still in school? Did you graduate or leave early?

Maybe so. Generalizing your posting style with others... No? Although I could see how it's more of an opinion now.

I left my previous job in June, went back to college (which I'm actually at now) and just heard word yesterday that I'm not going to be apart of my bro's business after all, he chose two different people to handle the Internet side of things. Looks like I'll be doing my own thing.

Something I forgot to mention in one of my old threads: my major (IST) is not MIS, which someone thought it was, not sure if that was you or not. Two completely different majors. I'll probably go for a minor in business administration as well.
