Hey guys, I'm sure there are many of you out there with websites, and all of you want hits to your site. How do you go about making your website/podcast known? If I can crack that code, I might just have a successful blog.

(I guess the first step is promoting it shamelessly in my signature/on this post!

Well, you could always hi Jack a thread, and say look here

    >>>>>>>>>>> Here <<<<<<<<<<<<<

It all depends on how you want to go about it, and what your site is about. Advertise on other websites similar to yours, pay search engines to display your link when someone searches for something similar,,, word of mouth.

With the millions of websites out there, its hard to get yours recognised.

Edit: but with word of mouth, id hate to have to remember yours, its soo long,,, mind ya, mines not that short, lol

If it's a good site, post it on digg and you'll be hit in no time! That's what we did over at AppleKeynotes.com and now we have to wait for things to die down before we open the site again!

    Digg Article

Blogs really help. since I added a blog to my site Google have started taking my site more seriously and my traffic has massively improved.

    couple of examples of google phrases that list my site on page 1;

    "PSP sucks"
    "amazing scenery" -image
    "smoking chimp" -image
    "felix" -image
    "Nintendo RS"
    "Miriam Staley"
anything with "satansam" "oldham" "saddleworth" "dovestones" will bring up high results too. or any of my game names. Ive been getting a lot of visitors by googlers searching for 10.4/Tiger and BT Voyager 2100 problems.
some mad ones are "ass forum" "satan forum" "genesis" "teleton a390" "karl dilkington" "

its all to do with automatic page names given by Wordpress (my blog thing) and Photoshops web gallery. they bring people in. but its keeping them there that's important. forums and blogs, places for your 'fans' to hang out greatly help. try and bring something to them too. my site offers my freeware games, some strange music and my services as a pixel artist. People come for that. I'm getting a lot of people leeching image files off me from my portfolio site. they're suckers. I can ask for bandwidth donations off sites they leach from so I'm happy.

So yea. provide a service. that always helps! affiliate linking. and blogs.

This service might be something to consider if you have a long URL or subdomain that you would like to make easy to write down or slightly easier to remember (e.g. if you want to promote it via flyers somewhere in the analog world). Check it out:

Other than that, my suggestion would be possibly to write to another blogger whose work you like (and who you think would like yours) and see if you can't get him/her to link to you as well. Also if you have friends who are in college get them to link to you on their personal websites, I know from personal experience that a link from a university domain boosts Google PageRank a good deal, which couldn't hurt if you're trying to generate traffic.

I second (or third) the shorter url. Make it short and/or catchy.. if people can't remember it, they won't go to your site as frequently.

    Get linked.

Leave comments on other sites (relevant comments) and have a link to your site.

well, i put my blog link, http://www.coloringwithnelson.blogspot.com, in signatures in various forums. And, if im feeling desperate :) , I run down to the nearest Apple Store (or any place with a lot of computers), open up Pages on all of the computers, select size 72 font, and type my blog web address in. I've had people email me saying that they got to my blog by walking past a screen in Office Depot that had my web address on it.

And my blog's title, Coloring with Nelson, is just attractive.:D :D
