What do YOU do with you MacBook Pro?

We spend quite a bit on our Macs right? So, in all honesty how does oneself justify owning one and why?

For myself I use my MacBook Pro for Adobe programs, Air Force work, off the side projects (design and etc for clients), and etc.

I grew up around Apple products... However, once I got into gaming years ago I started building gaming computers and that option was never available for Macs. I came back to Apple with the iPod and once OSX came out I made the large jump back as it fulfilled my needs in graphic designing and other work without the Windows headache.

Currently running a base 2010 13" MBP which I've had for 3 weeks and loving it. I use Lightroom3, and Photoshop CS5 for hobby photography, I also use it for stream HD TV off the net to my 37" telly via HDMI. ALso it gets used for about 6 hours a day for surfing on the sofa.

I come from full on Apple family. Started in the mid 80's when my Mum bought a IIc to set up her own business. She now runs a 2008 17" MBP and a 2010 27" iMac + iPad + iPhone 4 and has Apple TV and a Time capsule. It's like an Apple store at their house! The loft even has about 10 Apple machines from over the years in it. The IIc, a IIgs, Some Performas, some classics and a couple of G4 iBooks and iMacs.

Ive seen chicks using photobooth to put their makeup on. 2 thousand dollar mirror/facebook checker FTW.

I'm a software developer by trade, so I do a bit of that here and there. That's mostly at work though, in my spare time I'm trying to get into the whole graphic design world (with a particular interest in web design) so I use a lot of the Adobe Creative Suite programs, and I'd like to style myself as a hobbyist photographer as well so I do Lightroom stuff on there.

General web surfing and instant messaging, word processing, all that fun stuff that everybody does. Netflix instant watching, listening to music...

I also like to game, so there's that side of things. Strategy games like Civilization (can't wait until I get my new MBP to use with Civ 5 which I can't run on my old one...) are big, plus I do some MMOs (City of Heroes and soon to be Rift) when the urge strikes. (This is mostly what I run bootcamp for)

I specifically run a Mac instead of windows based PC for OS X. I've always been a fan of Linux/Unix as an idea but hated all the GUI stuff that was on there. As soon as I could run a unix based OS with the command line right there in case I need it for something with a really good looking UI on top, and dual boot with windows for my gaming bits, I was sold. I think I bought my first Macbook Pro either the first or second weekend it was available.

I use my iMac and 17MBP for the similar reasons you state. I do some photography as a hobby so PS, LR are some of my apps that I run in them. I also have an iPhone and they all three compliment each other nicely with my every day stuff along plus what I do for government work.

If we could get more Mac in the government side of the house, then I would not worry about some of the garbage they are still using. My way around it, is to run windoze virtually on both of my macs when I need to. I still have some apps that are only available as windoze and will continue to use until I find something better.

I do music production, some programming with xcode, hobby photography using iphoto and photoshop

not a big gamer, I went with the 13" 2011 model

Check out facebook and upload pictures

Wait.... people do other things with their macs? OMG!

I draw and paint semi-professionally at very high resolutions on PS and Painter. My 3 year old quad C2D can just barely handle it. Here's hoping the MBP that's in the mail can =). I can't waaaaiit =D

I got an 11" mba off craigslist for $600. Think the guy was leaving the country or something. Anyway, I just use it for

Word
Excel
Schoolwork (blackboard, connect, financelab)
Porn
Browsing
Porn
Email
And more porn

First thing I done with my 17" MBP was -
Install Win7 via Bootcamp
Install Crysis
Go to Starbucks and make sure I have prime position, so everyone can see I have a MacBook.

Oops double post

Other commonly used applications are:
Textedit
Microsoft (Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
iTunes
Lightroom&Aperture

2010 13" has no problem running all of them at once. LOL

I rip a lot of movies in HD, and basically do handbrake encodes all day. Of course, I also watch a lot of movies and TV. I do a little bit of photo editing as well, and I do occasionally play a game or two in Boot Camp.

On the work side of things, I do some document stuff and Matlab.

Looking at it now, I basically have a super expensive entertainment center that can also act as a calculator.

I do a lot of audio work, and my 5 year old Core Duo MBP is barely making it these days. My projects get large.

I also do a bit of web design (Dreamweaver) and some picture/video editing (nothing serious though - Photoshop, iMovie, and iDVD).

Other than all that, basic computer stuff.

My dream would be a super Mac Mini (or iMac) at my desk at home, and then a MBA on the side. But I might just opt for the new MBP.

I use mine daily for excel word and internet usage.
The main reason why I have mine is for CS5, which the antiglare screen presents beautifully!

Also ripping movies on the 2.2 is insanely fast!

I'm writing a dissertation. No, not nearly it's full potential, but I think just the fact that I forget it's working, and that I can get lost in my 35 open pdfs, browsers and word without a glitch makes it worth it.

HOLY CRAP.
That makes me scared for the future.
