Posted my old iphone on craigslist and got this mail.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

I am living in wisconsin, But i want to ship, The 16gb unlocked to my son as a birthday present. I would have done that myself but i have no chance to do that now, Because in my office we work till midnight. My son is a senior staff in the Consulate office in nigeria, He is in a research now somewhere out of his office .

I'll be paying you through money order or paypal. It's secure and protects two parties in a transaction. I would like you to provide the below requirements in your reply for me to send out the money order for your payment before you ship it.

Full Name:
Full contact address:
Zip Code:

All this information should be provided correctly to avoid wrong payment.

I will forward my son's residential address to you for shipping as soon as the payment reaches you. It will be included on the payment comfirmation.

I would be very grateful to hear your response soonest.

Thanks Immensely,
jameswilly.

NB: I will be paying you $700 for both the cost price and the shipping fee.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?!

Ummm, it's an offer that involves a son living in Nigeria. Are you kidding me? Do you want them to come over to your house and re-enact the Polly Parrot sketch live before you conclude that it's a scam?

i think you should search the threads a bit (and use a little common sense). it seems as though any of these offers with requests for shipping to Africa are totally fake and you WILL get scammed out of your phone.

remember if an offer seems too good to be true... chances are its b.s.

DO NOT TRUST! Nigeria is a dead givaway.

BTW I know it's a scam, but what exactly do these people do?

Same, I knew it was a scam as soon as I read it, and I'm being really naive here, but they are saying they are gonna pay you first, so obviously you wouldn't send it untill you recieve it. So what do they actually do?

I'm assuming they want all your information before they "send" the money

Anytime they attempt to sell you on how secure it is, it is just not.

If you really want to determine how serious this guy is, tell him he has to pay you with either a certified check or a wire transfer. Since he is in the US he should be fully aware of the scams out of Nigeria.

It also doesn't matter that he works till midnight. I am sure he has at least a day or two off to go to the local UPS store. If not, he can use one of their drop boxes 24/7.

This is definitely a BS scam.

Of course, trust them ...

Fool needs to be separated from his money.

Likely they will pay you with a $5000 check even. Just forward the difference in cash along with the phone.

Indeed

They send you a fake Paypal email that appears to confirm that your Paypal account has been credited. Do the scam enough times and you will eventually get someone who will post the item without first checking that the money actually is in their Paypal account.

Nigeria=Scam nothing else to say--Dateline NBC had a nice report on this a few months back.

OMG. I'm pretty sure I just did a deal with this guy for an 8gb ipod touch ! Can you tell me his name or address and then I can be for sure. Wow, what a small world. I hope I did not get scammed, payapl emailed me and said to send them the tracking number once I mailed it and once I did they sent me a payment notification that the money would be in my paypal account shortly but it's not there yet ? Please respond to this post. I am really curious now !
