I was having the same dilemma. SG looks amazing in natural light. Also, it looks amazing on some Youtube review videos as they have great lighting setup. Anyways, i didn't want to have buyers remorse so i've ordered the Silver one. (which i've been using for years)

I thought about getting the silver as the space grey is quite drab but then I just found the bright silver kind of distracting from the screen area. I ended up ordering space grey in the end.
Exactly this! At the Apple Store, when comparing the two colors, the first thing I noticed was the silver one reflected too much light to the extend it became distractive and annoyin.

You guys keep talking about the durability, has anyone actually tested this or did comparisons on it? The colors have been out long enough that I'd assume there's SOMEONE who's done some scratch tests by now right?

The anodizing is all the same... just a different color dyes are used.

The difference is when you scratch a silver macbook pro/air, the inside is such a similar silver color it's hard to notice.

You VERY much notice it on the grey ones because that outside grey is basically just a paint job (technically "anodizing process") and you end up seeing the brighter silver color underneath. It's not like it's made of some darker aluminum alloy, it's just that grey color on the outside .001 inches.

I've physically seen the nicks and scratches, the grey looks really cool... until it's scratched or nicked. The silver at least looks consistent for the lifetime you have it.

I saw this videon on youtube, someone getting higher performance on the Silver :

i guess it's all about random luck?

I have a 15’ Space Grey from last year. It’s nice yet I prefer the 16’’ silver one I have now.
Silver for me as everyone has a space grey

I have a silver 16" and too bright, distracts you from a display.

How did you ever survive before?

This is literally the only place I've ever seen in my life where people apparently get genuinely "distracted" by plain, empty white borders on iPads, static "Macbook" branding below screens, and now a swath of generic, plain, neutral metal not even in the same viewing angle as the screen content.

The silver is gorgeous, everyone and their mom has had space gray for going on 4 years now. It looks drab, and greasy after being handled.

I like the silver, but I love my space gray more. In my opinion it looks classy and more professional.

Pretty but I don't know why the trackpad seems to have some kind of yellowish coating on it.

Silver looks classic, and the contrast with the black keys is the best thing about it. Space grey is cool but I’m glad I stuck with silver. And yes space grey varies a lot in different light, silver looks consistently silver.

I picked up a silver again this time after going SG last round. I always felt like I had to treat the SG like a Fabergé egg, and it still ended up scratched around the sharp edges even though it spent almost its entire life docked or in a backpack. The weird yellow trackpad on the SG looks like ish too.

Funny story, I decided to return my silver one and rebuy it using my apple card to get the 6% cash back. When I placed the order I made the mistake of ordering Space Grey. I'm using it now and I LOVE it. I cant believe i even considered silver before.
