I've owned the iPads 1,2 and 3, but now only use the iPad mini. I use this mainly for emails, browsing , pinnacle studio/ movie editing, photo editing with a Sony NEX5, songwriting with an apogee mic. So, my needs have now changed from using the regular iPad for all my university work (finished studying).

Mainly safari, high end games (MC4, NOVA3 and Infinity Blade2), YouTube and productivity (school work on pages, photoshop touch, iMovie, iPhoto and now GarageBand as well). Pretty much everything except music, podcasts and movies because I do that on my iphone. Also I play the more casual games on my iphone like where's my water.

Reading. The screen is too small to comfortably surf the web for any length of time and the keyboard uncomfortably small for extended writing. It is super for reading.

About 75% of my "computing" is done on the iPad. When not using the iPad, I generally prefer a desktop to a laptop, since I like a full sized monitor, keyboard, mouse and comfortable desk on which to work.

I spend a fair amount of time meeting with colleagues, defining problems, and outlining strategies. I use the iPad to do the upfront work, so hopefully I can minimize the number of iterations and the amount of effort required to finalize documents.

For work:
Email
Calendar
Contacts
Review and annotate documents - good reader
Create short (1-3 page) documents and outlines - iWork
Notes - Notability
Reminders
Web reference and searches

For home:
Email, calendar, contacts
Notes and reminders
Photo sharing and editing - iPhoto, Flickrstackr
Web apps - Wikipanion, Facebook, twitter, weather, CNN, ESPN
Finance - Mint
Reading - iBooks, Kindle
Tutorials for our kids' schoolwork - Kahn Academy App plus Apple TV via AirPlay
File sharing - Dropbox, google drive, etc.
Entertainment - Netflix, Pandora

I use my iPad for mostly web browsing, gaming, and shopping (eBay & Amazon apps). Occasionally emailing and note taking as well. It's my computer away from my iMac.

I use my iPad mini mainly for:

Gaming
Web Browsing
Viewing Movies
Work Emails

And looking cool!

When I'm out and about in public people always ask me "Is that the iPad mini?"

As a college student I use iWorks (Pages, Keynote, Numbers) to write my papers, power points..etc. iLife (iPhoto, iMovie). Mostly the key factors any college student would use on their laptop. Granted, i'm still a kid, so i'll kick back some Youtube, Modern Combat 4, Facebook, twitter, Instagram, dropbox, Fruit ninja.

iPad for reading, browsing, movies.

Mini for navigation, email, and general travel-related activities.

Yes it has replaced my laptop for sure..so i use it for playing, web browsing,networking,emails..and a lot more:cool:

I use the ipad as my main computer now. Desktop only serves as a torrent machine and media server. Also, from time to time, when I need to do some serious word editing/formatting, and have to use MS Word, or need to draw a new component from my DIY projects in Solidworks, I can't do that on the iPad, but those aren't even monthly occurrences, and I'd like to give iWork for iOS a try (can't convince myself to pay the $$). For everything else, the iPad does a great job.

In the morning, it makes it easy keeping up with the news, redditing, checking message boards.

I use the iPad as my practicing central hub (I'm a career musician). All my sheet music and method books are in there, all organized and easily accessible in forScore and GoodReader. I keep a practice journal in Notability. The option to attach audio files to each note is a blessing. Metronome and tuner are easily accessible, and I don't have to look for them for 15 minutes before I find them. GarageBand is enough to sketch some compositions. I'd like to be able to write sheet music on the iPad, and there's an app for that, but I'm not sure how good that app is.
I use the iRig Pre, and a condenser mic, all of them attached to a mic stand, iPad included. This makes a very portable and compact setup.

When I come back home, books, videos, games and music are all here in my hands, again, organized and easily accessible.

Being a mobile device it also means I can keep on doing all of these on the road if I need to, which is one of the main reasons why I got an ipad.

I got a 16GB model and I wish I had saved a little more and bought at least a 32GB, but I feel the price difference isn't justified. Oh we'll. Great device.

I use mine for pretty much everything. The only reasons I use our other computer is to backup all of our iDevices; store music, pictures and other media; and financial stuff (my wife does not want that stuff on the iPads in case we lose them). I literally do everything else I need to do very happily and easily on my iPad or iPhone.

Entertainment, news, and school. I also play a lot of musical theatre shows and have replaced my big and heavy scores with an iPad. Coupled with a pedal for page turning, it's the perfect solution.

I think the iPad is a great tool to use simply because the battery life and app selection are bar none. Here are a few things I do with it:

Check my daily news (Flipboard is great for this)
Type up documents and make presentations (Using Pages and Keynote)
Read and type emails
Social Media (Twitter, Facebook)
Uploading and downloading documents for later use (Dropbox)
Listening to free lectures online (iTunes U)
Browsing the web
Playing games

Yes, the iPad is a toy for some, but I use it for more than just that and consider it a valuable tool and asset to my daily life. The only time I use a computer is when I need to type up a long research paper for school, otherwise I use the iPad for everything else.
