The compare all models page is literally right there at the top of the page - it just says all models and shows what each had all the way back to the Series 1 and everything else in-between.

No hidden, so on the talking about point... erm.

Those are tech spec listings and not side-by-side comparisons. Which was what we were talking about. So … erm yourself. 😉

I have a series 6 as well - nothing appeals to me.. I would prefer improvements to battery life. The watch doesn't feel slow for what I use it for.
Yeah, this is where I'm at too. I used to need to charge my watch every other night, and now it's more like 1.5 days. But other than that, I have no complaints about the performance. I recognize that it is 100% wanting a new color! So superficial!

You just don‘t know what you‘re talking about. The „compare“ pages are always only for models that they currently sell.

Just love it when people make snarky, blunt comments that are demonstrably false and prove that the commenter doesn't know what they are talking about! 😁

Just go to https://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/

There you can bring up and compare iPhones going all the way back to the iPhone 6. You can compare any model Apple has released in the many years since then. In other words, you can compare models that aren't currently being sold.

They should provide the same, side-by-side comparisons for the Apple Watches. After all, there have been some substantial changes over the years in sensors, chips, brightness, etc.

Apple must surely want people to see the clear areas in which the 9 is better than the early models, e.g., the 4-6, and even the 7 & 8, so that they will upgrade!

Note: Even the Compare All Models page for the watches was better in the past as you could see current and past model‘s features lined up next to each other. See, e.g.,

Pedantry point taken, but the point is still valid there is a full set of data to which to compare with which was the point, different format but the info is there. Anyway life too short, moving on.

It was snarky, but it wasn’t false. Side-by-side is what we were talking about, and this has always only been there for current models.

Your archive link only proves how inexplicably long the S3 was still being sold. 😂

LOL! I'm the OP and would like to see side-by-side comparisons of prior and current models. You made a blanket statement that Apple only shows current models being sold in its comparison charts. I grant you that may be true for watches, although we'd have to check archive.org to be sure, but it's definitely not true for iPhones!

That's my point. Apple could provide the same ability to compare new and old watches as it does for the iPhones, but it doesn't.

As to the archive link, yes, it shows that the 3 was sold for far too long! 🙈 Agree with you 💯% on that.

But it shows more than that. It shows that Apple has, in the past, sometimes provided direct side-by-side comparison of the latest and penultimate watches in its “Compare All” page — e.g., there you can contrast the 6 and 7 on a feature-by-feature basis.

That's useful!

What do YOU have and what are YOUR plans?

Good question! We're planning on upgrading a family member's SE 1st gen to a watch with ECG and O2. But whether that should be a refurbished 7, refurbished 8, or a new 9 is the dilemma.

There are marginal or more significant differences in cost, depending on which models we compare and whether we add our preferred sports loop band.

But features are a consideration, too. That’s why we’d like to learn more about what the 9 brings to the table vs. the 7 and 8 — especially whether they've made sensor or algorithm improvements beyond the cool gimmick of double tap.

Crash detection is one obvious plus of the 8 and 9 vs. the 7.

Comments have brought out some other changes, but would enjoy hearing from others.

I think Series 9 is a very nice upgrade. Brighter screen that can also dim to very low level (love it), new powerful chip, new ultrawideband radio -- all for the same price as S8. That's pretty good.

And be thankful they did not jam the Apple Watch with all kinds of janky crap you do not need, and do not want; just adding crap for crap's sake. Apple Watch is very well designed, so don't F it up with bloat. These are the kinds of upgrades we need: faster silicon, better screen, etc.

My AW7 is 2 years old and charges every night.

Would love to get the AW9 and see charging every other day ???

Any possibility ?

Good points, making me think perhaps I’ll upgrade my 7 series after all... hmm… if only the “ultrawideband radio” were actually useful for an FM radio! That would be a dream feature for me as I enjoy radio listening which currently drains my iphone battery a lot. Of course, I realize I’m probably an odd duck for wanting this, maybe it’s “bloat” that most don’t want… so many people streaming their Spotify etc. though, doesn’t seem like it would be too “out there” of a change… maybe someday! Probably not any time soon…

I guess it’s possible, but I wouldn’t bet on it. I’m intrigued to read how some people with my same AW7 model get away with charging in only 1x per night. I could only manage that if I didn’t wear it at night, as it drains 20% overnight, closer to 30% depending on how early in the evening it’s charged up… so my charging is routinely 2x a day.

It does seem possible in theory that the faster processor, more transistors, etc. facilitates less battery drain. Somehow though I suspect if it were at all significant, they’d take the time to brag about it in the keynote and in the list of features… being still “all day” battery life for 5+ years now is not encouraging to me that the new model will be noticeably better in that area.

Series 4 had a new chip and is the best update in Apple Watch history.
I agree. I have series 4 my 1st and only Apple Watch. I am still using it and still last me whole day. Planning upgrade when cannot update anymore, seems might be next year cos series 4 is oldest model being supported new watchOS coming out soon.

So, two things I remember from the keynote are precision find my iPhone and Siri without iPhone. They said when you ping your iPhone the watch will tell you how far and which way it is. And you can use Siri even if your iPhone is out of range. I sometimes try to set the timer in the kitchen while my iPhone is in the bedroom, and it spins circles before finally saying it can't do it. With the S9, that shouldn't be a problem.

Have the Series 8 am tempted by the Series 9 looking at possibly getting the cellular model this time round I’ll admit the differences are minor but I’d make use of the newer features

I’ve been looking today at the reviews and specs of the Series 9 and to be honest, it doesn’t seem a huge upgrade over the series 8. I have a series 5 and fancy upgrading and I think to be honest I’m going to get a series 8 stainless graphite and save the extra £150. Might go with an Apple certified refurb. Seems silly for me to get a series 9 aluminium when I can get that instead.

I was able to charge every other day for the first 9 month or so when I got my S4 SBSS, it all depends on your usage

Still using mine daily all these years later. Surprised the battery has held up this long and that I'm still getting OS upgrades, but thankful because Apple's insistence on not having a true black or space gray aluminum has kept me from upgrading the past few cycles.

Unfortunately physics isn't in your favor here. FM radio operates in the 3 meter wavelength range, and receiving antenna length would typiclaly be 1/4 of that give or take a bit - which would be difficult to accomplish in a watch without using physical headphones and the headphone wire as antenna.

I have an S8, and I'm not upgrading to S9, because like you say, it's not a huge upgrade. But if I were coming from an older watch than S8, I'd go for the S9. You get some extra functions that aren't coming to the S8, and there's the likelihood that some new features in watch OS 10 and beyond could only come to S9 and not S8.

True, but I fancy a stainless model and if I go for the S9, it’ll have to be aluminium as I’m not paying £699. I can get a stainless S8 for £549. I suppose I have to weigh up whether I want the look or the extra new functionality of the S9. The extra storage is redundant to me as I only use 7GB of 32GB on my S5 currently and the tap feature doesn’t appeal to me at all. I’m struggling to see a must have feature on the new watch if I’m honest.

Personally, I really want the precision find my iPhone feature. Siri on watch could be very convenient too. Storage would be redundant for me, too. I never use that for anything, lol.

I don't know about Watches, but this isn't true for iPhones. You can compare as far back as the iPhone 6.
