I'd never really thought much about the choice of names for my iPhone. I'm talking the name Apple gives by default ("John's iPhone Xs") or that you modify to ones taste. But after downloading one of those Bluetooth finder apps, I am realizing just how public that name is, assuming Bluetooth is enabled which it likely is for many. I am not a privacy nut by any stretch, but it does have me considering de-personalizing it a bit.

So I'm curious, do you all use something very identifiable? Do you leave the default name, which can be very identifiable (usually includes a first name)? Do you anonymize at all?

Mmmh, haven't thought about exposing personal information via bluetooth, but yeah, it's true I guess. I keep the default names for my apple stuff and it contains my first name. While I think it's funny to give your wifi public names (and secret messages), the thought about strangers sniffing for bluetooth devices in public spaces and finding out peoples first names is creepy.

My phones name is Arnold.

Couldn’t be bothered with stuff like this. It’s literally X’s iPhone, X’s iPad, X’s MacBook etc.

Whatever the full name and model of the phone is:
iPhone 11 Pro Max

FYI, when you reset network settings, the name will default back to 'iPhone.' Not everyone knows this...

Super long story.
Will keep it short.
Ended up buying the iPhone 8 Plus after the 11 did not work for me.
My second purchased iPhone 8 Plus.
It is a very pretty space gray, surprisingly.
So, first time ever, named the phone something other than my name.
Smokey the iPhone.
