I currently have 4 computers, (5 if you count the wife's). Now one of them is a 2009 Mac Mini that I only use sparingly, it was mostly for the kids though they don't use it much either.

I have a 2012 rMBP that my kids now use for their homework and I also have a Surface Pro3 which is my main machine when I travel. When I'm home, I have my 5k iMac I got last fall.

As for syncing my files, that's one Dropbox and OneDrive are for. I let those services push my files to the other computers effortlessly and without my intervention.

Has anyone tried back to my Mac which is included with iCloud for remote access? Would be great to have a base desktop machine and a laptop that just accesses it

Will look into that. The problem with using dropbox that some have suggested is I'm dealing with RAW files and video. Not exactly easy to load to a cloud. Big files.
