Hi all. I'm just doing this out of interest.

Now, I know Apple posts leopard's minimum System Requirements as PowerPC G4 867MHz, 512MB RAM, and 9GB of hdd, but Leopard runs TERRIBLY slow on these systems. What do you think is a bare minimum? for running a system acceptably?

For acceptable performance I'd say 1 GHz to 1.5 GHz (depending somewhat on usage) processor, 1 GB RAM (Mac OS X loves RAM), and 30 GB free hard disk space (so that you have space for your stuff).

My dads G5 iMac was going weirdly slow with Tiger, but I upgraded it to Leopard and it run faster now than before.
