Another question is: Why having a glass on the back if everyone uses a case that cover that beautiful design and makes the phone even thicker?

Thickness is not a problem and you know it.

I'd like a thicker phone with a larger battery.

Where is that option in the poll?

Mm, I think people who want a thicker phone than the iPhone 4 might be in the minority actually... As in, a very, very small minority.

But hmm, if thicker is what you want with more battery life, then there's battery packs that you can attach to your current iPhone. They work pretty well.

I say the glass back. That is where I say at least 1-2mm of the thickness is form alone. It is from the very breakable glass back.

Interesting perspective. While I don't think it would be >1mm thick, it would certainly add to the overall thickness.

Me personally, I hate the flat back of the iPhone 4/S. I'd love to see the tapered edges come back, even if the overall thickness stays at 9mm. iPhone 5's thinness seems too alluring for me though. I would definitely like something that's less than 8mm or even 7mm thick.
