I own A.Photo v1 . Downloaded the trial of v2 but so far I cannot find enough differences to support other 56 $ CA . I suppose that if you didn't have it before is a very good deal even the whole set.
Not for me. I have Designer too, but I use it very randomly.
If someone knows more about the pros to have the v2 I would be thankful 🙂

There's a new feature section there that you can review to see if it's useful for you. I'm strongly considering getting it because Serif and their Affinity Products are amazing!!!

Love the new features. LOVE the current pricing to get all three apps on all three major platforms — amazing deal!

But, while I could use Designer and Photo, Publisher is still lacking way too many features for me to use it for any serious work.

I would have liked a discounted upgrade price for existing users, even if it was $20 less. It would just be a small gesture of thanks to those who have supported them in the past.
This is almost impossible for apps sold through the Apple App Store. Best we can get is a discounted price (for everyone) on the release of a new version. This is the path taken by other apps in the App Store when there is a significant upgrade and developer wants some more money from us. Not very different from a subscription model but with an uncertain subscription period. I have coughed up with the new price and trust it will keep getting updates for at least 3 years.

Buy it from the Serif website directly and deny Apple their 30%
Here, in Australia, we regularly get Apple Gift Cards at a sort of 10% discount, so the App Store is cheaper. Buying direct can also have hidden costs - like 3% bank fees on some overseas transactions.

The $99 offer I think is only for a limited time, so you may not have a month. I believe it will jump up to $169 for the Universal License.
I jumped on it within the first few minutes it was announced. And so far I really like V2, pretty much the same workflow as V1 but with new and better features. Plus redesigned pieces of the software that makes it more modern...
Even more good news from Affinity. They've announced the discount will continue until mid-December to give those of us who want to run the trial enough time to determine whether to upgrade.

Did they release an image to vector trace tool yet?
Last time I needed to do that, I used Inkscape for that and then exported to SVG for use in Designer. (do not like the UI for general work in Inkscape).

FYI "Affinity Designer V2 does not currently have bitmap tracing, sorry."

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I don't like inkscape UI either.

While I'm a fan of Affinity (as evidenced by my previous posts in this thread), it's disingenuous of Serif to say Publisher V2 is officially supports Japanese and Simplified Chinese. Vertical text and ruby input remain nonexistent in these apps.

Affinity V2 apps are only available from Affinity, and are not on the App Store.

They are on the App Store too, with an in-app purchase, or probably you can use the license bought on the website too.

they are in the AppStore
OK Guys. I'm mistaken. I had the version 1 apps from the App Store. But I searched the App Store for "Affinity" and didn't see them, so I purchased direct from the developer. On your information I just went back to the App Store and searched for "Affinity". Same result. But when I search for "Affinity Photo"–there it is. Weird. App Store search must not be so great.

So...I installed these from the App Store. They overwrote the installed versions and assumed the existing license. Everything is normal.

Same here.

I initially installed the app from the developer's website. When I decided to install them on second computer, looked in the App Store and there they were.

After the download I used the email and password for my Serif account to register them.

Try searching for "Serif Labs". that is the publisher. The App Store search seems to return any other illustration software than theirs for the term "affinity".

Whilst I agree with your conclusion (search is not great), when I search for "affinity", the top result is Affinity Photo 2 along with the other Affinity 2 apps. Maybe it varies by country. As you say, Weird.

Love Affinity apps but I am still on Mojave so I can't upgrade currently.
The only things I don't like so far, other then that is:

• the license part. I like the simple way of purchasing each app in the AppStore and done (like V1). All I do then is download the app via MacAppStore (with Family Sharing too) to a new Mac and done. No extra license info is necessary and it works better in the long run for me. I understand it is cheaper for everyone if they do what they are doing now but not ideal for me.

• No way of exporting a backwards compatible file. So V2 creations can only be opened by V2. The only way around currently known by users is copy and pasting from V2 to V1 works fine.

• So far no new books to work with V2 apps and the new design. So my V1 books are less useful with V2. Kind of expected that and is fine, as long as V2 has the same updated books as well. Nothing known so far.

Anyone else find Affinity’s Designer for iPad interface to be overly complicated and cluttered?
I get that space is a premium on a tablet, but there just seems to be so many tools down both sides of the screen.

Vectornator on the other hand has a much simpler layout (more Illustrator-like so easy to learn if you’re coming from Adobe).
