Hmmm, 8 Gig Nano $249, 30 Gig Video iPod $249? Wow, that's like, a no brainer.

Yeah it is. I would pick the 8 Gig Nano every time. Regular iPods are hard drive based and thus have moving parts which break. After my 4G iPod's Hard Drive died prematurely I will never buy any hard drive based mp3 player again. Also, the aluminum casing is a huge improvement over the scratch magnet casing of the regular iPods and old Nanos.

Is there any reason why you need 7500+ songs with you at one time. When I was using my 4G iPod I tried to listen to all 10000 songs in one day and was unsuccessful. Has anybody else been able to succeed?

On a serious note, video playback is a good reason for wanting a regular iPod but until there is a true Video iPod (widescreen etc.) it really isn't too interesting to me.

I loved the Mini, and now I love the Nano too. Scratch-resistant aluminum casing FTW! My big complaint right now would be that the only color that the 8 GB model comes in is black. If I'm spending $250 on an iPod nano, at least give me the color options of the 4 GB model!

I would disagree, but mainly because i am interested in the video playback feature for when I travel by airline. I was eyeing the 30 Gig iPod for that purpose. I currently have a 2 Gig Nano that is 8 months old, only about half full with music. I agree that I see no reason to have a 30 Gig storage device for music alone.

"Case" in point...

Oh man I loved the chrome backing. I think I'm one of the few people in my area who has had an iPod nano for nearly a year and still has next to no scratches on it without using a case. Don't ask how. :p
My 5G regular iPod scratched merely attempting to remove it out of "protective" casings (the included one as well as an expensive one that I purchased).

The key idea here is not to put it in a case of ANY kind.

Hey guys. Just wanna get some feedback on the new nano. I personally hate it. I've been a nano user since the day it came out and love it. I mean, I love the black nano but I'm not gonna pay for an 8GB nano just to get a black one. And now you cant even get white? Meh. Also these resemble the mini too much and I also hated the mini. Anyone agree, disagree?

Chrome backs all the way! :p
I really like the new Nano and believe that the form factor is what it should have been in the first place -- a shrunken mini.

Nothing wrong with the old Nanos. But really like the new ones and colors. Ended up getting a black one for the capacity.

Black 8Gb is in my hot little hands. Totally kicks but. I'll keep my old pre-click wheel 30Gb for *long* road trips.

The new nano's battery life, screen quality, and build quality are incredible. Very very happy.

I even have some videos on my nano...yes videos...let me explain. It's sort of a cheat, but I generate a lot of scientific visualizations by rendering individual scenes from a series of perspectives and then making them into movies with QT-Pro. I can now throw the same things into iPhoto and create an album that I can scroll with the thumb wheel. So far it has impressed folks.

You can actually do the same with any QT video by saving the individual frames.

Okay okay. It isn't truly video and there is no sound associated with the image frames, but it does provide a nice way to show of some cool content.

I ordered the Blue 4 Gig as soon as it was available. I love the nano's way better than the videos or photos because its flash memory. MUCH faster. I have a 30gig photo, a 60 Gig Video and an 80 Gig video and I use my nano the most, mainly for speed. I use all my ipods for hard drives too, i like how fast the nano appears as a hard drive when plugged in. I also like how its aluminum now, it will last much longer looking new!

Ordered the black Nano last night. It shipped today for Tuesday delivery. Can't wait to get my mitts on it. I also ordered the shuffle (for the gym, cause I could not help myself), but it won't ship until October 31. Sheesh.:)

I always really wanted an iPod mini when they were around but I a) didn't want another hard disc based player and b) couldn't justify the money when all I wanted was something small to hold a few songs when I didn't want to take my "big" iPod out with me. So a 1GB nano was perfect.

On first seeing the new nano, it just looked a bit like a step backwards and not as "sexy" as the original nano but now I own one... I can't stop playing with it. It's great to have something so small that doesn't really need a case.

For some reason it seems smaller than the original nano. I think the rounded edges help to make it seem smaller... and the fact that I don't have to carry it round in a case any more.

So, after all that waffle, it's a thumbs up from me. :D

I just bought the 8 GB Nano yesterday( damn Apple forcing me to spend $250 for the black aluminum   ). I love it. The screen is so much better then my 1G Nano. Aluminum all the way.

PS: I also like the chrome back of the iPods, but the aluminum casing is a huge plus.
