I know it's still a couple years away, but I can't really imagine any big changes Apple will make for a redesign.

  • The MBP is already super thin and light.
  • Knowing their stubbornness, they won't bring back any ports they took away.
  • They seem dedicated to the butterfly keyboard.
  • Maybe they'll get rid of the touchbar, but I doubt it.
The only changes I can see is the obvious updated processors and graphics, and an updated screen and maybe speakers, even though those are both already incredible. I honestly just can't see how they're going to redesign the build because it's already gorgeous, light, and super thin. Thoughts?

Jony Ive needs a sacrifice for the Gods of Thinness. I think he will go for a hard glass keypad with zero travel to shave off a couple of mm. Other than that, I think its time for the bezels to join the 2010's. Maybe no ports and go all wireless in a completely sealed-in casing - completing Apple's decade long quest?

I think realistically Apple will work towards splitting up the consumer MacBooks from the MacBook Pros. Hopefully they will follow through with more powerful modular Mac Pros and they will develop the MacBook Pro line in the same manner. It's wishful thinking but hopefully they will fatten the pro up to allow for better hardware, batteries, and cooling. It's doubtful they would make it expandable or upgradeable but that would definitely be awesome.

There are two possibilities. With the current backlash concerning this generation's design and other Mac products such as as the Mac Pro; I think Apple is getting the hint that some of the design decisions might be fatiguing users.

So, the possibilities are:

Current chassis design of the MacBook Pro remains the same, with possibility of the same amount Thunderbolt ports remaining or eventually reduced to one like the MacBook. There is a chance the audio jack might be removed too, but they would have a lot of explaining to do.

Other possibility (I actually think this might happen after generation that succeeds this generation), move to a design similar to the retina MacBook Pro. Not necessarily sacrificing performance or ports, but similar aesthetic. The teardrop design I think is something Apple would love to have all their MacBooks on, but the Pro required this design because of the thermal contraints.

With possibility of the A-Series coming to the Mac, Apple might test the waters by delivering a first of its kind 15 inch MacBook Air type device; eventually expanding to other MacBooks.

Pen support for touchpad, e-ink keys, CPU/GPU on the same package.

Fill the casing entirely with epoxy. Make sure nothing can be changed or replaced! :p

On a somewhat more serious note, I wouldn't mind seeing a micro-LED panel Apple logo in the lid, so we can get it to light up again. I actually miss that. Plus, if it's an RGB panel it could automatically mirror Apple store color changes as well (might be user configurable, for those who hate gimmicky ****...)

  • Reduce the bezel size - they seem to have the technology to solve this. Doesn't have to be as small as the iPhone's, but cutting in half would be a huge improvement.
  • I can see the trackpad taking up the entire front section of the laptop and allowing Apple Pencil support built in. This would integrate well with their product lineup.
  • I'd like to see taptic feedback for the Touchbar
  • Wireless charger option. It would be awesome to place the laptop on a pad and not have to plug it in.
