New design?

Ultra mini (41mm)?

New features/sensors?

Where do you think Apple will go from here?
Many new sensors must be in the pipeline but when will the next one(s) be ready?

How about a true global Watch, in other words one model with all bands for the globe?

Now that data roaming is finally with us, surely this must come very soon?

Is anyone (@Joe Rossignol) publishing a log of 1. which providers have activated Watch data roaming, 2. in which countries it works and 3. with which Watch models? Would be more than happy to contribute findings whenever I cross a border!

Hope new CPU and a refreshed design. Need an excuse to upgrade from my Series 5, and the Series 8 is not just cutting it (and the Ultra is completely overkill for me).

Until technology advances the most Apple could do is increase the efficiency of the CPU. Unless you can settle with a larger Watch like the Ultra, battery performance will remain the same. I do not see the next AW bringing anything near new leaps in technolog. The temp sensor was an indication of Apple being desperate.

You know what would be cool?

I hope that Apple doesn’t increase the AWU screen size by slimming down the black bezels (while keeping the same 49mm case size). Instead, they should add solar panels on the black bezel around the screen.

I think they have to do something pretty special, to stop things getting stale.
I could not disagree more. You just saw a release of the ultra. That is about as huge of a refresh as you will ever get. In terms of the standard watch? I think we are seeing exactly how apple plans to move forward - slowly and deliberately. As most folks here have said, I would expect a processor boost. But I don’t expect battery changes. Added features similar to car crash - but no new sensors. Maybe more applicable temp information now that apple has wider data sets… ?

I don’t know, but don’t call the Apple Watch lineup stale… why do folks always need change for the sake of change?

I think that those of us that are big fans and frequent upgraders forget that we’re massively in the minority. The vast majority of people don’t upgrade every year or maybe even every two years. I know numerous people with even Series 3 Apple Watches. Apple’s isn’t releasing new watches for people that just bought one last year. They’re going after upgrade holdouts.

I don't know what to expect honestly, the last three years were very unexciting (minus the Ultra). I could see a new CPU for extended battery life, and maybe a more useful temperature sensor. I feel like the big changes that we're waiting for (blood pressure, blood sugar, etc.) are still a few years from commercialization.

It would be great if some of the features of the Ultra would trickle down to the regular lineup, like the dual-band GPS. Not expecting that, but it would be a nice addition

I am also curious if Apple will update the Ultra annually, or more like each 2-3 years.
Series 7 was a great upgrade for me with that bigger display.

Blood pressure sensor is not a big change for me, not at all. It's just a nice feature. But I understand that it is interesting for some people.

In a device so small like a smartwatch, get a 20% bigger display than Series 6 was really great. Both functionally and aesthetically.

I really don't get it all this about to have more and more and more sensors... I mean... Much more importante, for me at least, is to have a better notifications system.

All this hysteria about having more sensors (just for have them...) is only good for seeing ****** and gimmicky sensors with data without any use, just random numbers and meaningless graphs. Fitbit Sense, Galaxy Watch and even Series 8 with almost a useless temperature sensor. Smartwatches world need to re focus their path...

To make the temperature sensor more useful, it would need regulatory approval as it would become a medical sensor. Blood pressure and sugar tech is still a few years off, and the approval process, especially for blood sugar, would take time.

I’m only upgrading from the s5 once there are meaningful health sensors added (hopefully the 10?), I don’t consider the o2 sensor worth upgrading as I have a finger one which is more accurate. Apple really needs to work on collating all this health data in meaningful ways eg. An alert that you might be coming down with a cold/flu or you are over stressed etc.

There’s nothing to get “staled” at. One weak year and another exploding year. Evens out just fine.
Would say battery is a pretty big thing for many people, so if everything is just even and 1,5 times battery it's an instant buy for many

Until battery tech improves I can’t see them extending the 18hrs battery, it has not exactly hamstrung sales up to now. I think they will keep adding incremental features and keep the battery life the same.
Also, people who are really bothered about that now have the option of the Ultra.

Apple are just one of the last players in the game with so low battery - Take a look at the latest offerings from Samsung. To be honest, I don't know much about them, but the battery seems to be impressive - Damn a week or something is a Apple Watch users wet dream - At the very least a weekend getaway without needing a charger (a bit like AWU)

The last Samsung watch I tried was 2.5 years ago. It had the worst GPS I have ever seen on a watch. It was seriously awful. And that's coming from someone who put up with a Fitbit for a couple of years. A four mile walk on a known path ended up somewhere between 3.5 miles and 4.1 miles. After a week, I returned it and got a Garmin Venu. Maybe they've improved in the last couple of years.

Yea, there’s a reason the AW knocks every smartwatch competitor into a cocked hat. I’m ok with the battery but obviously would be nice to have more, the reality at the moment though means a big old fat watch like the epix or ultra.

20 hours would be a good threshold to get over and they could do this with a new more power efficient chip along with a small bump in battery size. It will be something else to differentiate it from the SE as well.

Regarding the design I think the Ultra confirmed that the current design with the curved sides is here to stay given the Ultra is essentially the current AW design with a flat screen bump and crown guard bump built on top.

Personally I feel we'll get a tweaked chassis with flatter display glass and some other small changes, new finishes and a couple of new band designs. That combined with a brighter screen, improved battery and processor will round off the Series 9.
