Web surfing, email, watching content from netflix

I use mine for:

Beejive (google chat, face book chat, etc)
Web surfing (like this!)
Remote for my Mac mini (VNC)
Email
Games (plant vs zambies -- my wife hooked me!)

I was just thinking about this as well!

I really really hate the Beejive people now... I bought the iPhone app for $16 when it first came out and was hoping they would give me an upgrade to the iPad version for free but no... they're now asking me to pay another $10 for it; now, it's not too bad but a total of $26 for an IM application kind of makes you feel sad... at least I think so and I don't even have an income in this economy :(

Enough ranting. I use my iPad for the following:
  1. Selling books etc. on Amazon.com and checking up progress
  2. Browsing news and FlipBoard (twitter as well as it works with it)
  3. Listening to Music and watching movies and iPad Today (when I have time)
  4. Taking meeting notes as well as some side course work in the Notes Plus application (the best I found so far)
  5. Managing my stocks and bonds (even though I'm on the verge of literally going bankrupt if they don't rise anytime soon)
  6. Playing a game once in a while (I found them to be too addicting so I don't play as often or I get no work done what so ever)
  7. Managing many work documents and PDF's in GoodReader application and iRead PDF (GoodReader being the best and it's only $1)
  8. Studying PDF's of couple books for my side courses (Again, GoodReader)
  9. Reading many novels in iBooks (Did I mention many? I have over 380 in there right now)
  10. Watching YouTube videos when I have time
  11. Downloading and watching/listening to iTunes Univ. material (Very handy for someone like me)
  12. Talking on Skype (The most important one for me... I literally talk on Skype for at least 4-5 hours a day and the battery usually drains from 100 to 30 which is pure awesomeness)
  13. Browsing for apps and trying to see what's new and helpful (When I'm bored and don't have much to do... usually in the pot)

Apparently I didn't read the messages soon enough that state that the iPad is for consumption only not production. I'm sorry if I'm using it incorrectly.

Uses:
Carry it into the mountains on geologic/mineralogic field trips to pinpoint my location, via the GPS, onto USGS topographic maps at a screen size that makes the maps really useful, not like those puny screens on the Garmin and other handheld GPS units.

Write my field notes on it in the field and at camp at the end of the day.

Take notes at any time anywhere on anything (although I don't carry it with me all the time, but often have it, sometimes I carry an iPod Touch for this because its size is more convenient to have with me "all the time").

Look up information and prior notes at any time when information is needed to answer questions, compare prices, follow a repair procedure, etc.

Write sections of books when I don't feel like sitting at my desktop computer. Maybe I'll invest in a bluetooth keyboard for that, the on screen keyboard works well for me, but I'm not as fast with it as with a physical keyboard.

It is a great e-reader for books, pdf files of manuals and technical journals, etc. Fantastic, it is a small library in my hands. Thank you world for finally making more and more journals, books, manuals, etc. available as pdf files.

It is loaded with photos for work, pleasure and family to show to others.

Use it to do some editing and manipulation of photos and other images for publication and for fun.

As soon as I decide which app and spend the money: use my iPad to write, manipulate and use various databases of technical and personal information that I now keep having to go back to the desktop or laptop (which I hardly take with me anymore) to do.

I do most of my reading of forums on it, although at this moment I'm on the desktop.

Do web searches and inquiries.

eMail uses.

Occasionally play games, although I'm not much for games and only have a few cheap and free word and board games.

Occasionally use it as a highway/traveling GPS to find a location or address I'm unfamiliar with, although I don't use a GPS much for that.

The iPad is simply so much easier to carry and use anywhere than my desktop or laptop, and I absolutely love a good touch interface over a mouse. The iPad is nearly the ideal computer.

Contrary to what a few people continue to state, the iPad is a great computer and a great production tool.

As a hot air balloon pilot, I have all of my FAA FAR/AIM documents, sectional maps, aviation weather/flight-related PDF's, and text articles from back-issues of "Ballooning Life" all stored in GoodReader. The iPad also goes in the "chase crew vehicle" to be used with Google Maps while they chase the hot air balloon.

As a software developer, I have the current tech books I'm working through such as iPhone/iPad app dev books and ASP.NET MVC books. I also have the iTunesU courses for iOS dev that I watch on the iPad while I write code on the MBP.

For news & current events, it's Flipboard, Twitterific, and Pulse.

For games, it's Crosswords, Sudoku, Dungeon Hunter HD, Flight Control, Harbor Master, Ravensword... et al.

As a casual guitar player, Tab Toolkit rocks for guitar tablature, and then miniSynth Pro for creating tunes on the fly for kicks.

For work, I've completely replaced paper notebooks in all my meetings and use Evernote for meeting notes. I've even replaced my Moleskine that I used to journal in and use "Chapters" app now.

When I'm feeling creative, it's Sketchbook Pro and Artboard.

Then there's Netflix, ABC Player and CineXPlayer for the 5 minutes of downtime I get in a day, hehe. ;)

Amen...

Hmmm......I use it for the internets (All 57 of them), view my high res pics of my gf when she's away so I'm not lonely, watch some movies @ night, after those movies, read the bible from ibook and ask for forgiveness for what I have seen.

Cool!!

Do you read the KJV of the bible and did you have to pay?

Do you really use your ipad as a phone? can someone call you on the ipad or is it through Skpe that allow you to make the calls (receive)??

See, I didn't get iphone 4 because I already have the iphone. I am paying $100 per month...

I have the ipad and use it more than the iphone... Good by Iphone 3G... Hello Ipad 3g with Skpe!:D

Word? Seriously?

I do not travel anymore with a laptop. When I go to customers, my new ipad will be enough to check emails, do Keynote shows and take notes.

I remember the day I went into Apple to pickup either a macbook pro or iPad...

After speaking with one of the reps in Apple, iPad could not do what I wanted it to do.... So, I grabbed the macbook pro and ran out!

Now, that was back in May 2010... Now, Aug 2010, "I have a new song in heart" - "I have a new song in my soul"... Ok.. Sorry about that...

I continue to use my macbook pro for my photography business (photoshop, aperture, and printing).

But my NEW IPAD 2010 IS MY EVERYDAY item to keep track of my personal schedule, my business schedule, my job appointments etc....

What stand do you use to type on the ipad? Is it comfortable??
Do you have Pages or Keynotes? Is it ok? What about the format??

I use mine every day for email, web browsing, and making notes and to-do lists and synching them with my iphone. I read a little bit on it, but I tend to stick to my Kindle for that since it's easier on my eyes. I also use it for Netflix and video podcasts. I'm basically able to use it for about 95% of the things that I used to rely on a laptop for.

I plan on using it for gaming, internet, reading books, and reading comics. I found that I don't play in depth games on my iPhone because of the screen size and battery life. Having longer battery and screen size making it much better for gaming IMO. I'll definitely also use it to watch movies and tv here and there.
