Over the years, I've used my iPhone for lots of different things. I got a X a month ago, which is a terrific phone. Oddly enough, I hardly ever use it to make a phone call, having made perhaps 2 or 3 calls on it in that time. I text, take pictures, browse, do email, and lots of other things on it. But, I hardly use my phone as a phone. So, the question is, what do people use their iPhones for MOST?

For Me, it's really hard to answer that question to narrow it down to one thing. But I can tell you that I use it to connect me to the outside world through media, emails, Safari, messages, and the camera. Of Course it's a communication device, but I use my phone for a tool for so many other things Over just one selected feature.

Phone calls.

It could be argued I use it more for texting, but when it comes to dealing with the important things I'm not handling that via text message.

Everything else, is mostly handled by any one of the multitude of computers I have access to 24/7 at work or home. I sit in front of a computer for no less than 16 hours every day so it's easier just to deal with stuff on a Mac or a PC. Generally a computer does a better job of it too. Can't connect my iPhone to the three displays on my desk at work or the six I have at home. InDesign won't run on the iPhone either. And I'd rather watch movies, TV shows and other stuff on the 47" TV at home than try and watch on the screen of my iPhone.

None of the above. I mainly use it for social media. It is usually Instagram that I use, but again half the time i'm using insta dm messaging system, rather than scrolling through photos. So i guess it sort of goes under texting. Usually have music running in the background.

Quick and convenient access to the internet and Facebook is the primary for me, along with everything else a smart phone is made to do. My 8 Plus is always my main technology device. I use my MacBook Pro when I know I’ll be surfing the web for longer periods of time and typing up papers for school or whatnot. I have no need for an iPad. If on the rare occasion I want to watch a movie or something, that’s what my MacBook is for.

Listening to audiobooks or streaming music is #1.

Triaging email or student messages is second with taking photos/Instagram third.

Far and away what I use my iPhone for the most is iMessage. I use iMessage to keep up with all my family and friends. Also I use my iPhone regularly to control my Ring device and alarm system, and for music in my car.

Streaming music is my #1 use these days. I have Pandora going while I'm in the shower, on the drive to work, most of the day when I'm at my desk, drive home, while at the gym and more often than not when I'm on the couch reading the news to wind down (don't really watch tv these days).

2nd place would likely go to iMessage.

Would ‘pornography’ come under the blanket of web browsing?

Well it sure isn’t productivity!
[doublepost=1516228969][/doublepost]For me it’s hard to narrow it down to just one.
The main contenders would be music, email, text/IM, social media, and camera.

The only things on the list I really don’t use it for are FaceTime and productivity.

Well, when you mix those words together, someone /-thing usually does.

For me it's mostly web browsing (the above quote may, or may not be relevant), and generally being in contact with friends, family and the occasional contacts for work. The iPod handles my musical needs, so in terms of purely recreational activities not already mentioned there's the occasional game or two I like to play.

Camera followed by phone calls for me. Thanks to iMessage/SMS forwarding, I handle messaging on the iPad most of the time. While I do have wi-fi calling/call forwarding enabled, I don't often have headphones on so it's easier to just answer the phone when in a public setting.

It's kind of impossible to answer, but I had to pick something so I chose Photos, because the camera is important to me.

In terms of frequency, it's probably texting.

I think of my usage more along the following lines, by device.
  • Apple Watch is for quick glances to check the time, date, weather, appointments, incoming text or phone call, skip to the next song, check grocery list, Apple Pay, view or snooze reminders and other notifications, etc. I may use the Apple Watch to dictate or tap out a quick response to a text, or to answer a phone call hands free. Use Siri to set reminders, timers ,etc.
  • iPhone is for more complex or extended interactions while on the go (quick email, looking something up online, directions and maps). Also to use as a camera and to play music, news and podcasts.
  • iPad is for use at home or office. I prefer the larger display whenever possible for Facetime, content editing, watching video, playing games, editing photos, browsing the Web, and more.
  • Desktop computer - For work at the office (although I use an iPad for meetings and working in the field). I still have a desktop home computer that is used almost exclusively for photo editing and organization.

I use it for everything on the list regularly except for games, music and FaceTime.

In no particular order: Web browsing, music, texting, WhatsApp, photos, email, notes, shared shopping list, banking, calendar, fitness with Apple Watch/Fitbit. Very rarely do I make/receive any calls with it.

I'd add a category that's either #1 or #2 for me: health/fitness measuring and recording.

I'd estimate my uses as:

1. email and texts
2. health and fitness
3. web browsing
4. banking/finance
5. commercial/shopping

Phone calls? Almost never.

My iPod is used mostly for audiobooks and music.

My iPads are used mostly for video and web browsing.

Actually, yes, really, but that’s only recently. I’m obsessed.

Otherwise I use it as an actual phone because I have a lot of older family members to keep in touch with and they are not able to easily text or email anymore.

I also use the camera all of the time. And it’s my pocket planner. And I love to read ebooks on the Kindle app on my 8 Plus. One of the huge reasons I ditched the X in favor of the 8 Plus was that it is much more comfortable for me to read ebooks on an LCD display than the OLED on the X due to the pwm dimming used for that phone.

Steve Jobs did not invent the smart phone, but he started it down this path where it could be all of these things to all of us and do so many varied functions so well in such a beautiful package. Respect to Steve for that.

As a business person my company uses texts most. Our customers text us what they need and we take care of it. It works great. Phone calls as reserved for emergencies. Still do emails but texts are king.
