What do you use your Mac Pro for?

I came over from the PC world in January, so I'm used to having a separate tower and monitor. I've tried the iMacs, and I do think they're pretty powerful, but something in the back of my mind keeps saying "The computer and the screen are together...if something happens to the monitor, I'm stuck without a computer for a few days..."

Also the limited expandability of the iMacs was an instant turn-off...can't change out the hard drive if you want something bigger? I can't buy one of these. And I know, there's always externals, but I have enough crap on my desk now, I don't need to be messing with external hard drives too.

So for what I want and need, the Mac Pro really was the only option for me. I use Photoshop and Lightroom quite a bit, but not professionally (yet, anyway....I do want to get into a job that allows me to do that though.)

Also, thanks to the power in this computer, it should last me a good 4-5 years minimum, and with the crazy resale value on these things, I should still be able to sell it for a reasonable amount whenever I do decide to upgrade.

I got into digital photography, and my Powermac G4 wasn't cutting it anymore. Only had 6 GB of HD space remaining, which I would have easily filled on my next photography trip. Also, the processor and HD speed weren't cutting it. I was making 40 megapixel panoramas taking nearly 200 MB. It would take over a minute just to load it. Lightroom was way too sluggish, and I couldn't just sit there watching it "Working" anymore. Time to upgrade, and so glad I did.

The Mac Pro does a great job...It's the fastest computer I have ever used and it will stay that way for a long time.

I do editing with FCS2 and I will be venturing into the world of Flash Animation, which I know the Mac Pro will eat for breakfast and laugh at it.

I bought my G4 for longevity (Mission accomplished, 8 years this January), and I'll be buying the next Mac Pro again for longevity.

1) Lovely to look at 2) Expandability, tired of getting a new computer every 2 or 3 years 3) I love having 4TB of HD as part of my computer, I already have plenty of 'floating' HDs around 4) Ripping my DVDs for my digital library is fast, used to take all day with my old iMac (PPC-1GB RAM) now it takes less than a hour for a full movie. 5) Great server for my :apple:TV, has over 300 TV shows and Movies on it now, over 600 CDs, I have no idea how many photos...my screensavers contain over 1k photos. 6) Too heavy for anyone to steal :D .
