More durable glass. Let's face it, it's been 6 years since the first iOS device dropped. Enough of this glass-breaking shenanigans. I mean really, who designs a CELL PHONE that shatters when you drop it? It's built-in obsolescence.

We shouldn't have to carry around a device that we'd be more worried about if we suddenly dropped at the same time as our children or a cup of coffee. The cell phone/mobile device should ALWAYS be okay. Even MacBooks are more susceptible to survive drops.

Anything made of glass is susceptible to crack, scratches and damages. The only thing such devices can do is to incorporate better materials. I.e. The new gorilla glass 3rd gen is much more stronger than the previous gen, but there is a level of damage any device can sustain and in all probability gorilla glass 3 is going to make its way into the iOS devices in 2013

b. Dynamic backgrounds

Never happen. That would chew up the battery like there's no tomorrow.

f. The ability to download files from websites or others directly, without going through the hassle of itunes to transfer them

There are apps to let you do this. Granted, they're not inherent in iOS, but they aren't jailbreak apps either.

Consumption vs Creation is a sterotype they need to break.

It's part of the nature of the device. Don't get me wrong, you can make some good stuff on an iPad, but there's a reason I use a computer at work for content creation, and it has nothing to do with how Apple restricts the device.

Hardware wise i'd be happy with them dropping the 16GB model and making the 32GB the entry level iPad. Thinner, lighter and made to look like the mini. I'd also like to see color choices other than black and white.

I would like to see a larger screen with anti-glare, beefier processor, higher RAM. I don't care if it's thinner or lighter.

Personally, I think the could get away with just making it thinner and faster. What else would a tablet user want?

more stable and if possible powerful processor, better battery life. a nicer camera would be awesome. 802.11 ac wifi. support for h.265 wouldn't hurt either (that would likely be covered by better processor etc). better display quality outside is a must for me. Doesn't have to be perfect but it needs to be better. More sensitive screen for finer writing and drawing wouldn't hurt either

i dont need it to be thinner, in fact I wasn't bugged but the milli thicker change from the ipad 2 to the ipad 3. took me less than an hour to be over that.

On the software front, the only thing out of the various gripes that i consider even close to vital is a way to move common file types from app to app without a computer for those that don't have one. I'm talking PDFs and similar. Or to do things like create a song in Garageband and share it to iTunes to play with your other music, use in iMovie etc. Putting such things in a common bucket by file type would do it. Even if we can't see the bucket directly.

Another thing I would like to see but isn't vital would be a way to 'backup' data separately (ie a file per app not one file with everything) to the computer. Nothing sucks more than having some app thats crashing like mad and being told to wipe everything and set up as new. If things were separate then I could at least restore my texts. I could even possibly restore data from an app I accidentally deleted just by reinstalling it via iTunes and having it ask if I want to restore my previous data (same with iCloud perhaps)

More specific Restrictions wouldn't be bad either. Ability to restrict all apps, even perhaps a way to tag certain bookmarks as safe sites and allow Safari to only access those sites like you can on the computer. Restrict music to a preset playlist and so on

And speaking of music etc. it would be great if they would adopt the same local and cloud in a single list with (when in the area) your home sharing included. Same in iBooks by dumping the separate purchases shelf. And it wouldn't hurt if there was a way to sort by author, keywords etc.

----------

a. Multi-user account, whereby you can use the account and if you share it with someone, they could always use a guest account, etc.

Aside from perhaps a way to save restrictions settings and create a 'kid mode' that you could move in and out of with a gesture and passcode etc. this is unlikely.

As are the rest. Apple doesn't view these as multi user devices or computers.

[*]Lightning to USB 3.0 instead of 2.0.

when the world is basically all 3.0 then it will happen. We might even get lighting to thunderbolt at some point

Yep. But the stereotype that you can not ever create on an ipad or even iphone needs to be dropped. it's all about what you need to create. I would never try to edit a 4000k video file on a MBA but it doesn't mean you can't edit videos on an MBA

----------

I would like to see a larger screen

if it's created by taking the same unit size and reducing the black/white space with better thumb detection etc sure. But i don't want to see them making a bigger ipad or shifting to 16:9

going with that, some or better (if there is some) palm detection would be good.

I don't think you would edit 4000K video on ANYTHING :p

While I take your point, it's the imprecise nature of the iPad that's fundamentally different from your example. While you wouldn't edit 4K video a MBA, you could. OTOH, while you could edit photos in Photoshop on any computer capable of running it, however slowly, you can't do it on an iPad with the same level of precision on the iPad, regardless of software.

Never happen. That would chew up the battery like there's no tomorrow.

If they are going to utilise IGZO technology, power consumption can be dropped to 50% or alot more (if you go by what they claim). Dynamic backgrounds need to work, only when the screen is functional ( just like how its on computers, not when its on standby, screen off, etc. Its just a nice addition, that's all. Nothing that I desperately need.Even a self changing everyday home & lock screen wallpaper software would be a nice touch.

Exactly my point. As long as they aren't inherent, there is always an extra hassle. I need to go through an app. It can be solved when they have a better file management system, and incorporate such non-restrictive features.

Heavy duty tasks will necessarily mean you would a performance level matching that of the computer.

Anti-glare... YES of course!

Agreed..more sensitive & precision touch tech is the way forward

I think around 7.5mm thickness is fine. Just don't want it to be thinner than that.

Restrictions by apple has always been a hindrance. Like i said a file management system and Open with your own default app should solve the issue.

I didn't intend for a kid mode. I got relatives who use my ipad quite often when I am not using it. I want to have a mode where they can use the ipad but not get access to my stuff like my fb, mail, etc.

I get what you intended. But as I said it seems clear that Apple designed these as single user devices. So don't hold your breath.

I was referring more to the imprecise nature of a touch screen as compared to the pixel precise nature of a mouse. I would never want to try animating in something like After Effects on a touchscreen. Too imprecise.

Never got the chance to reply back about why the mini2 will have a higher price than the current so I will just do it here.

The current one is selling like hot cakes and I don't see Apple foregoing it to tell the truth especially when it is killing/cannibalizing the larger iPads currently. So they will have one make a decision, $329 for current or the mini2 for higher. Especially if the second one is released much sooner rather than later, they know folks want retina in a compact size and will pay.

Time for Apple to get mean. Do you think they like the current stock price? :)

Not going to happen. With a simplifying manufacturing process, experience, better yield rate and using older gen tech..the total cost of making the present ipad mini is reducing remarkably, thus increasing the profit margin. what's likely to happen is they will likely reduce the price to a price bracket of $259-279 with a $100 increase for each higher capacity. If a retina ipad does come..it will retail at $329.the trick is that they charge $100 for doubling storage while their actual cost is just about $15 more each time..and they will want to do that with retina and non-retina ipad minis.

Honestly, I think Apple will just replace the mini with a Retina mini and leave it at that.

Then if folks feel the mini 2 will indeed be $329, I say expect it later than sooner. They will not release it with the current mni doing so well. But if they increase the price, I feel the mini 2 would come out sooner.

1. Thinner and Lighter
2. Stereo speakers that face FORWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3. Better cameras (front and back) and features
4. More refined OS
5. Longer lasting battery
6. More RAM

I don't really think so. Simply because there are alot of new emerging markets where cost drives everything, and a cheaper ipad (mini or full size) will always do well. i think the non-retina ipad mini will continue to sell like the ipad 2 ( and not replace it like many claim). It's going to be two different lines of ipad (just like the MBR and MBPro)

It's going to come at the same time as the ipad 5, and my best bet would be around june-july. Let's see. Either ways the non-retina mini is going to be cheaper. and the retina ipad mini will take over at the current price .

Aesthetically - narrower bezels. Might make holding it slightly more awkward but looks a lot better.
Hardware - more RAM if it means fewer page reloads in the browser and fewer apps being purged from RAM over time.
Software - the ability to sync individual apps, without having to sync the entire device. I know lots of people who never backup or sync their iPhone or iPads because they're worried about what iTunes will delete in the sync.

Do you mean multitasking or not forcing apps to full screen so you can have them side by side? If its the former, what do you find lacking about Apple's solution?

I meant just what I said, real multitasking.

Meaning apps run, you switch to another and pick up right where you left off without waiting for it to load.

The iPad already has this.

For me:
Stereo speakers
Spec bump

To qualify this statement, the iPad has this IF the developer has written their app to take advantage of it. Apps still aren't allowed to run willy-nilly like they do on, say, a Mac.

I have an honest question: will having stereo speakers really do anything? Technically, the iPad already has this, but they're so close together it's mono (and I don't even know if they really play left and right or just two mono signals). But even if it gets stereo like the mini has, can you actually hear that difference? It could be my hearing loss, but at the same time my stereo hearing isn't diminished, just my ability to hear in general. So, will having stereo speakers on the same side of the device make a difference?

Complete uniformity across all devices

I would like to see the iPad, iPad Mini, iPod Touch and iPhone all run on the same A7 chip - which is efficient enough to power all devices equally in terms of battery life and speed/processing. All should have the same cameras, speakers, flash, microphones, NFC, fingerprint security, IGZO displays and every one of them have all the same stock iOS 7 - including all apps Eg...weather, stocks, passbook etc on iPad/Mini.
Plus make them all look the same - I guess Apple are working towards this now - can the next iPad (and iPhone) please have a back casing/display junction just like the iPad Mini ? (It says cleaner and looks so much better than, for example the iPhone 5, when sunken flush with the chamfer.)

I dislike having to constantly think about what is included where and not being able to use certain apps on certain devices, one app running slower on a certain device than another - keep them all the same and upgrade them in parallel every year/6 months. Uniformity I guess is what I seek...that! An iPad that looks just like the Mini but with a 9.7 inch display.

Faster CPU/GPU
Lighter
Thinner bezel
More rounded edges and corners
Even longer battery life
And most importantly stronger 3G/4G antennas, Apple just don't seem to know how to get this right , my iPad sits on EDGE in places where my GS3 and Galaxy Tab10.1 comfortably sit on 3G/HSPA+, same problem with the iPhones.

I don't really want that. iOS multitasking is designed to minimise the overhead of apps running in the background - I wouldn't want them doing it willy-nilly - thought it would be nice if apps that didn't have it enables would just freeze rather than close when you leave them.

I can't always hear the difference, but it definitely sometimes helps. A big thing that would help would be making the speakers louder too. When I want to use the iPad as a telly while doing the dishwasher or something it would be nice to have it a bit louder.
