What does a healthy MacBook say under "Firewire"?

I'm trying to diagnose a MacBook that refuses to communicate with a Canon XH A1 HDV camera. I've tried the many permutations available online, but have gotten no where.

So I checked System Profiler under Firewire it says Maximum Speed: 400 Mb/s

Can anyone confirm or deny that this is what a Core 2 Duo MacBook says when all ports are working properly? The camera is currently plugged in, and I see nothing under this tab.

... I should add that I'm trying to import using iMovie HD 6

Yes, the MB is FW400.

Is the camera on and in Play mode?

The camera is on and in play mode, with HDV out selected. I had to purchase an extra Firewire cable because my traditional Belkin one is not with me right now, and I think it could be the cable. I suppose it is possible that a cheaper, probably lower-quality cable could be the difference.

It's worked before with my Belkin cable, and the other options are AUTO or DV (under Playback STD).

I don't have a camera handy to check, so I can't say for sure.

Hi,

I am a similar problem, when i connect my Canon HV20, it does not show under System Profiler / Firewire....

The cable / camera works fine with a PC..but not on Mac....

Any suggestion to fix this issue?
