Most likely used for warranty purposes. I don't think Apple will cover water damage so when the sensor is tripped. Apple will know it has seen water.

Yea, most likely the little white sticker that turns red and tells you "out of warranty." when you're not. :mad:
 
the macbook seals the floodgates when it detects a water hazard. closes chamber 1 first then moves throughout the notebook closing all the chambers etc..
