Hi Guys,

I have a question, people who return their Apple devices within the 14 day return period, what does Apple do of those products ? There could be people who for the sake of using a Apple product for free for 14 days could also be buying it and then returning it for a full refund, if everyone starts doing this Apple would be left piled up with open, used products. What does Apple do of such devices ?
 
Wow ! I wish I can just keep buying Apple Products use it for free for 14 days and return it back for a full refund ! And I can keep doing it ! Who needs to buy in that case ! lol !
 
They do have records of your returns, I do not recommend doing this as a result. Don't be surprised if you get stopped one day lol

So you are saying Apple Store guys only allow a return for certain times not beyond that ?
 
I think the point is that Apple probably notes who might be abusing their return policy, as does Amazon already. In my opinion, people who return products over and over again for insignificant issues just make it worse for everyone else with legitimate reasons. We may all see return policy reduced or further restricted as a result.

In theory, yes, you can do that. But would you actually have time to go back-n-forth buying and returning a product every 14 days? That's excluding the time spent restoring any data on the device. The fact that not many people "abuses" this policy is that in general, people find better things to do than doing this. Even students who are broke and have plenty of time don't bother doing this.

There are lot of countries in the world where Apple operates which do not have the 14 day return policy once the product is sold it is sold forever somebody from that country lands up in the U.S or Europe he is gonna have a ball of his life :D
 
When the iPhone 7 came out I was at the apple store to buy and I couldn't decide between the 7 or 7+ and the girl working for Apple suggested I buy both and try them out for a bit and then just return the one I didn't prefer.

So I don't think Apple really cares if you buy and return your items.

There is a thread on here somewhere where the Apple Store stopped accepting refunds from someone due to their frequent returns. Same with Amazon -- they closed the Amazon account of another member here because he returned too many Apple products.

Of course they care. Companies don’t make money on returns that have to go through the refurbishment process. That’s additional overhead in terms of technical processing and administration. It’s the same reason why Amazon suspends serial returns abusers.

So what is the correct answer then? they can't resell it as new....

They get sent off to the factory. Where they are checked for the problem then disassembled. Useable parts are then used to remanufacture phones. They don’t just simply turn around and resell returns as used refurbished phones.

Even in countries where Apple uses Authorized Dealers there’s always a minimum 7 day return policy.

Only if there is a genuine problem with your device like a manufacturing defect or technical problem not if you change your mood lol ! As it happens in U.S & Europe where there is a no questions asked policy !

Like what the rest said, if they know that you kept returning (they will eventually recognise your face if there is only one Apple Store in your area lol), they may think that you are out to abuse the system and thus put a stop to it by either not accepting any more returns or worse, bar you from the Apple Store.

If you're good with committing fraud - and you're fooling yourself if you say it isn't - then give it a go. But a lot of stores are tracking frequent returners to combat this very thing.

I don't particularly like your attitude in generalizing that non-Americans to have such behavior. There are tons of immigrants in the US, yet you don't see a huge amount of abuse, showing that most of them are still sensible people.
 
My pops was a Police Officer who worked in the Fraud Division, he didn’t bring work home, but I got a crash course in Law Enforcement and was there for many fun arrests. While a seemingly good idea, I highly recommend against it. It’s a felony to commit any type of Fraud, like others have said Apple keeps record of returns and most other companies do as well now. You are probably just joking, but even still, I’d be careful with returning products that aren’t defective or have no real reason to be returned.

Apple has proven you wrong and stated such in keynotes. Do a little research and educate yourself.

Agreed. The process for this sort of stuff is also pretty well known to those who happen to know some of the repair techs that work for companies like Apple, Nintendo, Sony, Amazon, etc.

At least with the company I'm familiar with, the repair center for an area received the returns. If it looked like it was a remorse return, then it would still go through refurb/repair certification tests. If it passed, then it would be resold as a refurb or used for swaps. Anything that was actually defective was disassembled, the parts tested, and then put into inventory to use for repairs or refurb/remanufacturing work. Minus the defective part(s), and usually the battery. Usually, the factory doesn't receive the returns though, just the repair center for that region.

Generally, it's better cost-wise to have the repair centers do the work. No having to ship both ways across an ocean to be parted out or tested, and if you part out a return in the region where the sale happened, that means fewer raw parts need to be shipped from the factory to that region.
