I’ve got the F1TV app which pulls its feed from the UK. It’s natively 50fps. When I have frame rate matching off, it looks like a 30fps feed. Is the ATV dumping half the frames then performing a 3:2ish pulldown to get it to 60hz output to my tv?

Bonus question: When my 120hz tv receives a 50hz signal, does it perform the same conversion at double scale (without dumping frames) to retain the smoothness of a 50fps input?

Actually the UK is natively broadcast at 25fps, the Apple TV uses frame doubling to output at 50Hz.

However if the AppleTV hasn’t been able to verify the screens capable of 50Hz then match frame rate will send it to the TV as 25Hz.

Whats actually happening with your TV I couldn’t say for sure.

Yeah, but F1TV is a standalone streaming service. So kinda like how we might only be able to see a baseball game in 30fps on cable, if you subscribe to mlb.tv, you get it in 60fps. Same thing with F1TV.

And my ATV outputs at 60hz. So there's some sort of trickeration goin on. Whatever it is, my TV appears to be better at the conversion than my ATV.
