What does EE mean?

So I've upgraded to iOS6, and where at the top left of my phone it used to say my carrier name, it now says "EE".

So it has the signal strenth, EE then 3G.

I'm confused ! 😕

It's a joint operation between Orange and T-Mobile.

I'm on Orange in the UK - as part of the upgrade to iOS6, a "Carrier Settings Update" was required - since that, I now see "EE" at the top (it's the new "brand" of Orange and T-Mobile).
