This M1 is insanely good at staying cool. Meanwhile my Intel 16" ramps up its fans from just web browsing. The fan barely ever comes on and I've never had it at 100% RPM even when video rendering.

even when video rendering.

Well I edit video too and that makes me think I only need the Air😛 I think I saw someone get the fans on when using OBS to live stream while playing WoW at higher settings. It seems to take a lot of effort. (I'd imagine Blender or apps like that would love a fan too)

While I haven't tried using OBS while playing, I have run both WoW and Diablo III (not yet optimized for the M1) at max resolution and settings, and I still haven't gotten the fans to turn on audibly, let alone at max. It's strange after so many years of hearing fans on both Mac and Windows machines to run one this hard and never hear the fans.

Try to use handbrake and encode video..that will use the CPU to max...upper comments mentioned that browsing web kicks in the fans on the 16”, well i dont know....my 16” is dead silent idling at 35-40C while doing these basic things on the machine...

Nothing. No amount of benchmarking causes the Pro's fans to go to max. They'll turn on, for sure, but never to anything close to the speed the Intel 13" Pros reach.

My M1 Mac mini, running 100% CPU for now multiple weeks, is completely inaudible. My 2012 Intel Mac mini, running near zero "active" software, runs louder. (It's a Plex server, and Plex server idle runs hotter than the M1 at full load.)

Meanwhile on my 2019 $3000 16" MBP, The fans ramp up for just about everything.
Same here on my Old mid 2015... A browser with several tabs gets the fans going. If I watch youtube, I have to increase the vol, else I will be hearing the stupid fan.
