Does QuickSilver find apps to launch them as quickly as LaunchBar does? And can you do the short names.. like I type PS to launch Photoshop.. or FT to launch Fetch?

Thanks.

Yes, you can do short names. To open iTunes, I simply have to press T, P for iPhoto and PH for Photoshop

As you start typing, it brings up what it thinks you might want. I get Photoshop by typing PH unless I've been using iPhoto in which case if I get as far as typing PHOT, it tends to pop that one up first but a quick arrow down gets it back to Photoshop.

Thanks you two for the replies.

What your saying would work, and I could adapt to it I guess, but in LaunchBar, I don't have to type the start of the name.. I can just type any two defining characters. A good example is for Word.. I type WD and it comes up, rather than typing WO... Its not quicker particularly, just something I am used to. Will this work in QuickSilver?

Thanks.

I'm not sure how the Quicksilver system works in that it partially depends on how many other things you are having it 'scan', how many functions you want to let it perform and partially on what you opened last time you typed those letters so it does 'learn'

If I type W, I get the option to launch Word. If I type WD, it switches to a bookmark for a website that starts Who Does - since I have it set to look at bookmarks too. The letters you type don't have to be consecutive though.

I got a quick tutorial at NAB this year from QS user, it looked interesting but I never got around to installing it. I think I'll try it out - thanks for the link to the tutorials.

Yes. You can either train QS to recognize that string ("WD") as the default action to open Word, or you can create a trigger for "WD" to launch the app. There are lots of easy ways to customize QS to your specific needs/wants.
