The Retina display..

I don't really understand what the concept of a retina screen is. Can you see it?

After looking at my 4S today, I think I saw the "Retina".

And now...I think I know what it is.

But I think it's something else.

I think if you look at it hard enough you can see it though...it's like a...I don't know how to explain it..

Of course. 'Retina' is just a marketing term used by Apple to denote their high pixel density displays.

And the pixels aren't infinitely small, of course you can still see them.

I used to tilt my iPhone to the side and admire the crispness and vividness of the icons. I thought that was retina, but it's something else.

,... have you seen it before .. ?

It's almost like a "shutter"...like a crisp digital look... it's hard to explain..

Retina Display is some marketing BS from Apple for high resolution display. It's so high that your eyes barely able to distinguish and see each pixel. Thus you feel that you see through regular paper instead of LCD display.

But you know what, I understand your problem. You can see something through retina display but you don't know how to call nor explain what it is. Well I know it! Would you like to know? It's called

PLACEBO
:apple:

Okay. This is something everybody can do.

Go to your home screen stare at a point on the screen. App icons work best.

Tilt the phone back and forth in a circular motion and you'll see this glisten.

Are you seeing what I'm seeing?

It looks like digital glitter. Sometimes you'll use the phone and it just happens. You just see it.

Yeah the retina display is amazing, nothing like it. I know those super amoleds have great colors but they aren't nearly as sharp as the retina.

You don't see it? I'm sorry. But as you interact with the iPhone more, you will.

I love tilting the phone and looking at the screen from many different angles. It's so pleasing to the eye.

Apple's site says "Images in games, movies, and photos pop off the screen."

They do. It's like 3D without being 3D. It's almost like I can feel the clipboard above the notes app.

It's almost like they packed such a high resolution into a tiny screen, the images upon it literally glisten.

Did your phone come with magic mushrooms?

Did your phone come with magic mushrooms?

No.. Sorry to sound so crazy but of course it can't be overly obvious because, it's a display (so as not to distract).

But at certain points within the interface, you see this amazing "digital glitter" is what I call it. I don't know if it's the backlighting or angle or distance. But it just flows through your body.

It just hit me (I was going for a run this morning) and I stopped and said, "Woah."

Sorry to sound so insane but, I really like it- and was hoping that other people have experienced this.

Well I'll just say, it isn't a normal display on anything I've ever seen.

You can see how clear the retina display is below:

I don't think you can just post a picture of a retina screen. It's a combination of back lighting, electrical wave frequencies and angling.

This picture does not show what I'm talking about.

But I could try to make a photo of what I'm seeing.

Looking at home screen on iPhone: yeah, definitely, I'm seeing unbelievable detail here.

But if you compare to a screenshot of a non-Retina iPhone, it will not be as clear, nor will it be able to be blown up that big.

I know right? And what if it gets better? What if we start seeing hologram iPhones? Holograms behind a glass screen.

That would be awesome.

I saw stuff like this once....but I was in the hospital on a pain pump with really potent meds in it.
