What does "retired" mean?

What does it mean when a user is "retired"? How is that status assigned?

It means the user has voluntarily expelled themselves from the forum, never to return. Unless of course they get obscenely bored some days.

I thought retired mean, gray hair, liver spots, baldness, hair growing out of strange places, social security, etc.
