Sorry if this seems like a silly question but when you are setting up your new iphone what things don't transfer over that you should try and save on your old phone before wiping it and trading it in?

For instance, I know iCloud has saved all of my pictures and the like but messages on my old iphone obviously don't transfer over. What are some other examples of things I should save before wiping the old phone?

Thanks!

Messages do get transferred over if you have iMessage sync turned on. Some apps do not transfer data over. Most banking apps would require you to setup from scratch again. Just depends on what you use really.

If you have iCloud backup of your messages they will get transferred over. App data may also get transferred but the ability to work where you left off is on a per-app basis.
iTunes library wont get transferred or backed up. Same for movies in iTunes library. Some apps may not get transferred if they are pulled from App Store for whatever reason, meaning backed up app data is useless.

Another a bit obscure fact about transfer is iCloud backup is the only type that can properly carry over all apps and data if not all apps are bought in one single region. For example, you buy some apps in US market, then buy other apps in Australia market.

I would go to iCloud settings and turn everything on and give it at least 24 hours to upload/sync. You can turn things back off after you switch phones but having things like health and activity synced to iCloud could save your bacon if something unexpected happens.
