I use the built-in burning capabilities of Mac OS X. I burn disk images in Disk Utility.app and data files in Finder. Blank CDs and DVDs are so cheap now that I no longer care about getting multiple sessions on discs anymore. In the rare circumstance I need multiple sessions, I use Burn.app, which is an excellent freeware utility.

Duff-Man says...I too use Toast 8. I've gotten several emails about v9 but see no reason to upgrade at this time, especially for the asking price. If it was a $25 - $30 upgrade I would consider but certainly not at twice that....oh yeah!

Toast 9, a bit of a wasted update for me.

The two main things I use toast 8 for crashed toast 9, no joke. I had backup movies I wanted to convert to DVD-5's and boom CRASH. Then to try round 2, I went to burn an already shrunk-to-DVD-5 toast image and boom CRASH. I opened up toast 8 and both processes worked perfectly.

The only thing toast 9 "wowed" me with even partially was the updated interface.

So not to thread jack but stick with toast 8 for the time being. And OP, toast 8 is a good option now if you can find it marked down (or even if you can't!).

SimplyBurns - click Burn nothing happens

I'm using OS X 10.5.2
Downloaded latest SimplyBurns today. Installed OK.
I created the DMG image with OS X Disk Utility.

1- I'm trying to burn DMG images to CD/DVD. "Burn Image Mode".
2- I can see Burn Destination: Medium, Capacity, Writable, Disk Usage, OK.
3- I click Choose and select a DMG file [open].
4- I can see the file in Source Image.
5- I cannot see anything below Source Image:
6- There is nothing in Image Format, Image File Size, Total Size, Partitions.
7- When I click Burn nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong ???

I've been using Toast 8 and love it.

A little OT; The other thing I found that really helps to create a satisfying disc creation session is having an external DVD burning drive. The internal drive on my iMac tops out at about 4x for DVD's, but my external through firewire can more than triple that speed.

I use Toast 9 & I have not had any problems since getting the update, It's rock solid. I got it to help my mom back up her TIVO system. That & 7 was a little long in the tooth.

Upgrade To 9

Guess we are not going to get an answer on this one.

For now, I think that I will continue to use Toast 8.

The only real reason that you would want to upgrade from Toast 8 to 9 is that 9 has Blu-Ray compatibility. In other words, for most people, there is no point at this stage. I still use Toast 8 and find it to work perfectly for anything, even windows discs.

I use Toast 9. There is one MAJOR fix in 9 that makes it worthwhile. Toast 8 kills the Dock. No new open programs show up once Toast 8 is running and you can't switch to a program opened after 8 was opened. In order to fix it while Toast 8 was running, you'd have to kill the Dock process and restart it. Then it was fine, until you opened or closed another program. Toast 9 doesn't have this problem. And 9 is much better at managing resources, and allows you to pause encoding if you need to run something processor intensive. The upgrade is a no-brainer.

SimplyBurns is ok on CD but not append DVD DL 8.5GB

It could be me ... I'm new to to the Mac world !!!

I have a MacBook Pro 4.1, OS 10.5.2, Leopard
Disc media = Verbatim 700MB CD and DVD+R DL 2.4x 8.5GB.

I tried a 700MB CD ,,, "append? seemed to work fine. BUT ,,, when I tried a DVD+R DL 2.4x 8.5GB ,,, I could not get it to "append".

Example:
1- The first folder burn to 8.5GB DVD worked fine [checked-appendable].
2- Then I go through all the steps again using DMGConverter to create another DMG image.
3- Then I would use SimplyBurns to burn "append" the DVD. -- NO ERRORS OR STRANGE SCREENS !!! -- And no additional data written to disk !!!

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG ??? Or is it that SimplyBurns DOES NOT "append" to DVD+R DL 2.4x 8.5GB ???

Sincerely,
Matthew

That just isn't true. I've been using Toast 8 pretty much since it came out and have never ever had that problem at all or anything like it.

Still curious about "appending" Dual-Layer DVD's

Unfortunately, being new to the Mac world, I'm still totally ignorant on my original question of "appending", adding files, additional burns, sometimes called "multi-session" on one DVD ???

My OS X 10.5.2 Leopard Disk Utility seems to only support CD appending !!!

I've surfed so much looking for the answer ,,, that I got a crink in my neck ,,, time to take a break no doubt :)

Does there exist DVD Burner software, Mac OS X Leopard, that supports 8.5GB DVD+R DL disc appending ???

Regards,
Matthew

You say, "Burn Folders" for Data

I'm not sure what you mean by "Burn Folders" for Data ,,, but ,,, when using "Burn Folders" are you able to "append" burns to the same DVD-R DL 8.5GB disc ???

I can "append" with 700MB CD-R disc but not with the DVD-R DL 8.5GB disc !!!

Regards

Dunka ,,, Toast 9

Just wanted to say thanks for all the replies.
There is a lot of bogus nonsense out there.

Looks like the favorite is Toast 9.

I like burning discs ,,, gives me a warm fuzzy ,,, :D
