Can you give an example? I'm afraid there is no metrics that can be tied in to skin temperature. It's really useless data except for maybe notification that you are dead (or pretty close to death by hypothermia).

Skin temperature vary due to a lot of exogenous factors (you change your clothes, or go outside, or the air temperature is changed and your skin temperature changes too). You just put your hand next to a warm object and skin temperature immediately changes. What can it tell you about?

I see only one reason for this sensor. And that is marketing.
i was using an Oura ring for a few months. When I got the Vaccine, which made me sick, the Oura app notified me to a change in my average body temperature trend before I even knew I was gonna have a rough time for the next few days. Basically, it knew I was getting sick. Sure enough I had a fever that worsened over the next few days. Pretty impressive.

Probably wouldn’t work well for an up to the minute temperature check but a change in the average trend could be a useful metric for overall health.

YouTuber, Sam Kohl (iUpdate) just posted a video that rumored a temperature sensor in the AW 8 but only to be exclusive for females during ovulation period (or something like that). I don’t know how accurate this is, but given what the Oura ring does, it doesn’t seem out of a feasible possibility. If they do implement it, I’d like to see them do something like what Oura does for both genders.

Wondering if the AirPods Pro would be a good platform to check updated body temperature values, since it’s in ear and a common canal used on the body to check body temperature.

For sure. Midnight and Starlight are not my thing at all.
I saw a starlight watch for the first time in reality just yesterday.

It just looks like dirty white. Didn't like it when I first saw starlight on the 6" iPad. Still don't like it.

I prefer (Product) Red, but a red band as well is just too much.

Canada isn't much better. The yanks get the great deals. ?
I’ll take universal health care (though I recognize it’s far from a perfect system) over cheaper Apple Watch’s lol. Its wild to me that some insurance offers a discount on premiums if you use Apple Watch. Thats not how healthcare should work, you shouldn’t get cheaper health care if you can afford to buy an Apple Watch.

If there's nothing much to be improved on the hardware side, then perhaps they should focus more on the OS. I see there's opportunies for the sleep tracking, stress management app and maybe steal some features from Garmin e.g. body battery etc. Tend to agree we might not see any improvements in battery any time soon (multi-day battery). The most we can hope for is 2-day battery life.

I've just seen this UK story:

Parkinson’s KinetiGraph (PKG)

The Parkinson’s KinetiGraph (PKGTM) consists of a small device worn on the wrist for collecting data over a period of 6-10 days and provides a report for the doctor that shows how motor symptoms and complications of Parkinson’s disease (PD) such as slowness of movement, stiffness, tremor and dyskinesias vary throughout the day.
https://www.theguardian.com/society...or-parkinsons-patients-hailed-as-lifechanging

Immediately set me wondering whether it needs hardware any different to what is already in an Apple Watch?

Having such a device for a week or so might be helpful, but a permanently worn one might be even more so.

(Will be checking out information on the device later.)

ADDING:

Could an Apple smart watch track your Parkinson’s disease symptoms?

Oura app notified me to a change in my average body temperature trend before I even knew
Well, that's nice. But when the body temperature rises you already know that something is not okay (especially if you're male). If you want to know about any health issues beforehand, it's way better to use such metric as heart rate variability (and Apple Watch can do that).

Oura app must notify you often, because, as I said earlier, your skin temperature is affected by many factors unrelated to health problems. One night it may be colder and the mean skin temperature will go down, the other night it may be too hot and the mean skin temperature will rise.

I'll say it again, I have such a sensor on my Huawei Watches (Watch 3 Pro, Watch GT 3) and it's completely useless because my skin temperature varies a lot from night to night, which is perfectly normal and not health related.

Anyway, let's wait and see.

I actually like that idea if implemented properly. I wonder how much the premiums discount is over two years? A $275 annual discount pays for the aluminium watch. I was anticipating a larger discount than that.

Apple Watch Series 7 is excellent. It's my daily watch now, it's replaced every other watch I own save a Timex digital for pool/beach. We really like this version of Apple Watch, especially the communication aspects, i.e. alerting to phone calls, keeping the watch in theater mode for quiet alerts, timers, calendar -- it has an amazing toolkit for the size and price.

I hope the Apple design team doesn't stuff the Apple Watch full of junk we don't need. Instead, improve the Series 7. Slightly better battery, make it more robust, ensure the integration with iPhone is super-tight and never fails, basically make it a bulletproof user experience and the premier digital watch companion. I'd say the ability to receive calls/messages/texts and the ability to communicate with Apple Watch is critical, as well as basic watch functions like watch faces, alarms, timers, and the other complications. Then the health features. Just make sure it all works, flawlessly, like it does now on Series 7.

I don't see myself going back to "regular" watches, ever, except for pool/ocean beaters in the sub-$100 category.

To me, all of the colors on the AW7 are limiting in terms of band selection. Hopefully, they’ll bring back space grey and silver for the AW8. Last summer, I bought the 44mm red AW6 on a one day sale from B&H for $225 (fantastic deal) and bought the charcoal grey braided band to go with it. I loved the combo. Unfortunately, the band stretched out over time to the point where it would “spin” on my wrist. I bought the size 12 as my wrist is 8 1/8 inches (which is really off the chart on the large size for Apple bands). Took it into Apple recently and they replaced the band (since I was still under 1 yr)…but since they no longer make the charcoal band…I had to get the red braided band. Argh. Red and Red…is a bit too much for me….but what do do:). I’ll keep it (mainly as a casual sports watch) Until the AW8.

Thanks for posting that. There's a lot of red+red photos, but fewer of contrasting straps. I have a (fake) Milanese style strap - if I ever get a watch!
