Is it better than HDMI, how does the quality of the signal compare to DVI and VGA? Can it be used for a lot of things (like TVs, displays/monitors, etc.)?

I have a 27" iMac, but never really used the Mini Displayport. I also haven't heard much about it (spec wise). A comparison between HDMI/VGA/DVI/Mini Displayport would be great.

Thanks.

You are asking the wrong question. Mini DisplayPort and the proper adapter will allow you to connect to just about any monitor. If your Mac ships with Mini DisplayPort, then it probably also shipped with an MDP-DVI adapter. You may also use a MDP-VGA adapter from Apple. The third-party community provides MDP-HDMI. I carry VGA and DVI adapters with my MacBook Pro at all times. I use the MDP-VGA adapter with a SMARTboard almost every day.
