So I’ve been ordering groceries to be delivered and the wheat bread is sold out.

I’m on a diet and white bread isn’t an option.

But I have a bunch of turkey. how should I eat it?

I'll just say, sustenance > diet at this stage, i.e., I wouldn't sweat a different bread product. That being said, make a salad: good greens, slice the turkey up, cheese (sliced deli, blue cheese crumbles), whatever other salad type things you like (tomato, onions, olives, cucumbers), do a cobb type salad, add some egg for additional protein, seriously, it's not that hard to just salad-ify a sandwich. If you've been living on your own, I'm sure you can figure out how to be a little creative in the kitchen (regardless of how much you'll say you used to eat out, again, this is simple stuff).

Dude... Mustard. Dijon, or if you're feeling adventurous, find some Russian mustard or English mustard. It'll blow your head off. And it's so good.

Screw the diet. I'd focus on filling and nutrition meals. Even if you only eat once or twice a day, or whatever you young people do. I usually opt for a dry smoked turkey breast at the deli and get a couple pounds of it. I usually prefer a whole wheat (wholemeal for our cousins across the pond), rye or a dark bread.

Mustard
Mayo
Horseradish
Tomato
Pickled onion
Pickled Italian peppers
1-2 varieties of cheese
Thinly sliced large salami
Hard boiled egg, sliced
Spanish sardines, drained
Large capers, sliced
Romaine lettuce
Chopped Spanish green olives
Pickled jalapenos
Smoked deli turkey, sliced
Smoked Canadian bacon
Smoked roast beef sliced
Maybe some homemade ranch as a dip

Nice hoppy IPA. This is a nice summer lunch. One where I skip breakfast and opt for a light dinner. Most people gag at the sardines. Let me tell you this. You won't taste it much if at all. They lend an earthy, salty, smoky flavor to the whole affair, and add a rich creaminess to the sandwich as you chew. I like to have tart pickles on the side. There's some nice organic ones from Costco I like.

Turkey sandwich? Thousand Island dressing and some nice lettuce.

Mix the stuff up and let it sit in fridge awhile, preferably overnight, to let the flavors marry up. This recipe is copped from

https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/thousand_island_dressing/

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup yellow onion, minced (optional; not everyone likes how this ages in a dressing)
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish - i put a bit more
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Hmm, I think a sesame ginger dressing would work better with deli poultry, @LizKat. Probably put it in a pan and heat it up with a bit of a corn starch slurry to make it more of a spread than a runny dressing, and it'll emulsify the oils and seasonings. Hawaiian style hot sauce is another good choice. Or sweet chili sauce in the glass bottle.

Good news, I got wheat bread delivered today haha.

I used 2 slices of wheat breaD, a good amount of turkey, iceburge lettuce, and really nice honey mustard sauce which I mixed with a little olive oil mayo.

Not the most diet like, but not bad either bc all I had other than that was baked chicken, coffee, a bowl of Cheerios, and fruit

I agree with others, ignore the diet for now. As for the turkey, I love it with some spicy brown mustard.

I don't understand why everyone is saying to "ignore" the diet?

I don't need comfort food y'all.

I stay "sane" by just talking to friends and working on my goals and keep moving forward the most I can so that when this thing ends I'll be in a better position to succeed.

I find comfort in knowing I'm working towards to my goals the best I possibly can, despite this setback, and will hopefully be better off as a result rather than gaining 10lbs which I VERY EASILY could right now haha.

I want to diet so that when this is over I can look [HOPEFULLY] better than ever and feel confident seeing my girl :)

EDIT: spicy brown mustard is the best it doesn't get better than that hehe

Sometimes iceberg is all there is.... and it's ok for a little crunch in a sandwich or endeavors involving taco shells w/ refried beans and "whatever".

I agree that crunch is essential.

Eating a turkey sandwich with lettuce, and then trying it without...huge difference. I also thing it adds to the "blend" of ingredients for an overall nice taste.

Mmm. Love pickles, pickle relishes... bread'n'butter, sweet, dill, mustard, watermelon rind, Indian... between those and more plus all the Asian stuff and regular ol' barbecue type sauces and mustards in my fridge I should end up in the finals of any annual contest for Condiment Queen. Or at least I think so when I periodically endure the process called Cleaning My Refrigerator. I have to remove everything off the kitchen table just to fit everything on there from the condiment racks in that fridge.

As do I.

Pickled mango is delicious.

Agreed; as is pickled garlic.

Pickle relishes, and sweet dill pickle are also lovely with sandwich meats.

Mango chutney... a friend who hailed from Florida and whose parents had mango trees in the backyard used to bring them back in a couple bushel baskets in her car and make the chutney up here. I forgot about the chutneys, some of them would be great with a turkey sandwich..

Both mango chutney, and really good tomato chutney would be excellent with a turkey sandwich.

I made mango chutney last summer. Great stuff. Made it a touch too hot, but who cares. Apart from the people whose mouths were on fire.

Savory or sweet?

Savoury.

As a rule, the pickles are savoury, while the chutneys can be sweet.

I've had both mango chutney - which, while sweet, can also be further broken down into mild or hot (i.e. chilli) versions, and mango pickle; the pickle was savoury, and a little sour, while the chutneys are relatively sweet. All are delicious.

Open mouth, insert, chew, swallow. :D
i was just at Kroger’s and they had a variety of breads. I purchased an Oroweat Oatnut bread which is delicious. For a sandwhich, Turkey, Mayo, white American cheese (any cheese), sliced tomato and lettuce.
