The fun bit is manually editing the categories - I added just about everything, which is almost the same as having nothing. :) I wonder how often their algorithms adjust the categories, though. I just got a Home Depot ad - but if I never do anything on Google that would ever lead them to believe I'm interested in such things, will the home improvement category eventually be removed?

Maybe AdBlock makes a difference. Someone on another thread said using AdBlock was piracy. Stealing information without paying for it. I think not!

That's hilarious! I've been using AdBlock for years. I guess I'm a big time crook.

Anyway, I just opt out, not that their info on me was that good. In addition to getting my age horribly wrong, they thought I was from Pennsylvania and that I was particularly interested in automobiles and "lifestyle." Maybe there is a middle aged Pennsylvanian sneaking into my apt every day and browsing cars.com and men's health magazine........

*shrug*

Or maybe Google is trying to generate more revenue, by skewing their results into areas where they have less sponsorship?

They didn't have an id cookie and my interests were things i searched once yesterday... fail..

Btw if you opt out does it disable the google ads or just the collection of info about one?

apart from it not being illegal, whats the difference between purposely blocking ads and downloading a song off youtube?

not really takling about google btw, but smaller sites that arent as profitable and dont make as much $

I'm not surprised, but I figured people (RIAA) would be *****ing up a storm about it by now....

Or maybe they are and I'm out of touch...

How could they? It's not a tool specifically for downloading copyrighted material, many independent artists post stuff up which they let people download for free through such sites. The download sites don't even specifically link to copyrighted material.

Or.

Way off on me. Though I can understand where they got "celebrities and entertainment". As I was doing a lot of searches to organize my iTunes library. But I do way more searches in science and technology. Yet none of those show up.

I agree with you, but that doesn't stop them from complaining hard about bit torrent.

ugh... that ones a POS.

The quality of the downloads is generally better though. The others I've used seem to default to LQ.

True, but YouTube download sites are not really a tool for mass piracy. YouTube is medium the entertainment industry has quite a stranglehold over. They seem to think they're better off spending their time taking down file lockers at the moment. Of course spending their time creating legal alternatives would be better, but hey...

yeah but its a pain in the ass the download a video from there.. not worth it.

Apparently I am safe since I don't enable cookies.

All it (your URL) had for me was an error message.

So is it criminal for me to mute the tv/hulu or walk away when a commercial comes on?

i never said it was a crime. anyways, no that is not the same. its the same as not looking at the ads when you viist a website. if you fast fwded the ad sont he tv that would be the same tho, yes.
