Golds gym, but mostly I use it for the shower facility. I run outside as much as possible. Only when its snowing or the temps drop below 32 degrees will I use the dreadmill instead of running outside.

I use my school's gym. It's actually not that bad because it's owned by a private gym company. It's free for students, which is a huge benefit. Also, I don't have to waste any time for travelling. It lacks some equipment I would like but in the end, I mainly use free weights anyway. Machines are for grannies :D

Would anyone with a good workout plan be willing to post one here? I like using dumb bells and not having to rely on a spotter, so nothing too serious.

We'll need more information on what you are trying to achieve. Do you want to bulk up, get stronger or just tone?

My routine varies day to day depending on how I feel and what I am trying to focus on.

Condo has a gym I use for cardio. But for weights I have an adjustable set of dumbbells at home.

Used to belong to 24 hour fitness. Was fine for cardio, but too many people lifting weights. Seemed like I was always waiting for dumbbells (both kinds) and a bench. You can do nearly all the same at home with the adjustables and a yoga ball.

Not even close for me sadly. If you are trying to bulk up, a yoga ball and home weights simply won't cut it unless you have a serious set of weights. I press 250 on my normal workout and there is no way a yoga ball will support that as well as finding adjustable weights that go that high (usually 45 per hand).

If you have a gym that is too crowded then you need to either find a different gym or find a different time to go. Most of the time you can work in with people, you just have to ask.

I'd like to just gain muscle tone. I'm right now skinny and like being skinny, but right now I have ZERO muscle mass or tone... right now design studio is dying down for the semester so I will have a lot more time on my hands.

Toning is more reps and less weight. Without really looking at you and talking to you it will be hard to say you should do this or that. You really have to look at your body and focus on what you want to build on.

The best advice I can give you is this.

Start with going here and selecting a plan for your age. Then hit the gym....

These plans are well rounded and can start you on your way. Journal what you are lifting to help you keep track and either ask for help or watch someone that has clearly been lifting when doing an exercise that you are not familiar with. I can't tell you how many times I see people doing an exercise incorrectly thus working the wrong muscles and possibly working to injure themselves.

Also, with being tone, you need to have a solid core. Believe it or not you can really get what you are looking for by simply lifting your own body weight. Pullups, dips and crunches as well as leg lifts and other assorted items can really help to build that core.

Lastly, if you are skinny and you want to put on some weight (muscle weight) then you will need to eat. As you tear those muscles down, you will need to feed them so they can repair correctly. Lay off the junk and move to a higher protein diet.

I hope that some of this helps... If I can help you further, please feel free to PM me.

That is a great freaking price. Just wish there were more Gold's gyms around.

It didn't start out that way. About a year ago I joined and it was 35 a month (1 year contract). I think that with the economy they lowered it to help keep people coming. I was able to "downgrade" my account to this amount. I lost the ability to do classes (which I don't use) and I can't bring a friend. Sure makes my wallet happier! :)

We have a crosstrainer in our living room.

gyms are expensive and their business practices tend to be rather suspect imho.

I cycle a lot so I just go outside. I couldn't even afford a gym membership anyway.

I'm looking into LA fitness because they are 34.99 a month all club access, and no contract - that seems fair no?

Not sure if you've signed up yet, but.......

I've been a member of LA Fitness and I'm currently a member of 24 Fitness. Both are good enough for me.....I lift weights and use the treadmill/stairclimber. I don't even use the change room....I show up in my gym clothes and carry my backpack around with me.

I quit LA Fitness a couple of years ago because I couldn't find the time to go anymore (instead, I exercised at home and ran outside). When my time opened up again, I was going to rejoin LA Fitness, but they had a $100-200 sign-up fee on top of the monthly payments. 24 Hour Fitness did not have that fee, and only had the monthly $31.99 fee. LA Fitness refused to waive that fee, so I joined 24 Hour Fitness.
