Sketchbook Ink - poor customer information.

When autodesk started with apps for mobile devices, especially Sketchbook they got more customers than in the 29 years before -ALLTOGETHER!! They finally decided to build a special unit, only for mobile devices. Sounded all pretty cool until the new iPad release with the mouthwatering presentation of Sketchbook Ink...which didn't turn up in April as promised and zero information on the official homepage. Apart from some new promises on Twitter (see earlier posted links above) about it coming soon and again ZERO information.

Guys, that's lousy. WAKE UP!!! Inkpad and Paintbook are not bad at all when it comes to vectors and though we all might like your product too you are losing your customers faith BIGTIME. Hope the thing comes before X-mas, for my springsketches it's already way too late.

Customer service

I just got this email reply from autodesk today.

Thank you for contacting Autodesk. We apologize for the delay in responding to your inquiry.. Unfortunately, we do not have a tentative release date for Sketchbook Ink at this time.

Yikes.

Update

Hey I heard that they'll probably have to shut down Sketchbook Ink because they cant get Apple to approve it because it doesn't work as demonstrated during the iPad event. Ha ha ha man this is just getting better and better.

Almost here - maybe

I found a blog entry on the Sketchbook website as follows:

"Along with SketchBook Pro, the Stuff editors also gave a shout out to the upcoming SketchBook Ink app, which is quite timely... with Ink already submitted to the App Store, it is literally the final countdown before launching!"

Hopefully it's true

Seems this was written on the 19th May so maybe we'll see it this Thursday.

Dear god, its actually out.
And only $2 as an intro price. Downloading now.

edit: Well, first impressions is that $2 is about all it should be. Its definitely a complimentary app and not a fully featured vector art tool. There are no layers beyond a background image I cant seem to even position, you can't control any lines after drawing them, the export is only a .png so you can't edit it as a vector on the pc like you can with various other apps, no features like mirroring or anything, etc. It does have a decent palette though.

Some of the brushes are pretty nice, but some of them feel unresponsive and none of them amazing or anything. None of them have the nice line smoothing of something like "paper", which I figured would be an option you could adjust.

So right now I'm not very impressed, though thats just experimenting for 5 minutes. Im sure patient use of it will produce some great results as most art apps can, there are some nice looking example pics, I just question if I'd want to spend that time in this app over another. Hopefully it gets nice updates.

But yeah, need to try really making something with it now to give it a full shot.

edit 2: After playing with it more, I have to say this is probably the most disappointed I've been with an app. Autodesk is such a large name in the graphics industry, the thought of them releasing a vector app with natural ink lines was exciting. It is such a pain to try to work around the lack of layers, and I am getting a lot of glitchy looking ink flow and its not as smooth as you'd expect on the iPad 3. Im sure people more skilled than I will be able to produce some cool stuff with it, but for me right now its a gimmick app and nothing more. Hopefully it sees a lot of updates.

Do you think since it's pretty cheap right now ("Intro Price"), I should get it and hope for updates based on user experience in the near future? Or is it a pass?
