Maybe it was submitted on the 12th. I for one am waiting for the update. I can't wait to try it. The quality of TruPhone is really good, so if the quality matches this for Skype, it will be a winner for sure. BUT, hopefully when Skype releases their own app, the quality will be better. Time will tell.

Noting the purpose of offering Skype within Truphone is to try and keep you within the Truphone app for as long as possible, ie use it as a one stop shop, it will be interesting to see what Truphone will be offering to make it "better" than a native Skype app, now that one is slated for release.

Why not? It only allows true voip over wifi and so doesn't break any "rules". If out of wifi calls are routed over cellular network to their "switching station" and then over the 'net via voip. So a portion of the call comes out of your monthly iPhone plan and a portion out of your Truphone plan.

I've used it to call internationally when out of wifi and it works very well. The first part of the call was effectively free (verified by my O2 account page) and the international part of the call at 3p/min from my Truphone account. Call quality was excellent.

It will be interesting to see how good their Skype rendition is. I'm looking forward to it.

It's iCall, and it was submitted to Apple for approval on October 15th. Perhaps it's treading too much on AT&T's toes by diverting calls from cellular to VOIP. Nimbuzz's Skype call quality is already very good.
