Hi all
Hope this is okay to post in this forum.
I have a very old (me.com) email alias that receives massive amounts of spam. It goes to the junk folder but I'm getting a bit fed up of sorting through so much junk mail to dig out the occasional genuine mail. I want to keep the email address, but I'm debating disabling it for a few months in icloud.
I can't find any information on what happens if an alias is disabled - does anyone know? If an email is sent to a disabled alias, will it get bounced back to sender? Or are emails 'queued' and then received once / if it is re-enabled? I just disabled an email alias as a test and then sent it a mail, which was received straight away. So not sure what the disable feature actually does?
I was hoping emails would get bounced back to spammers. I know that probably won't stop them from continuing to spam the address, but thought it was worth a go as a first step. The other option is to just keep the alias disabled permanently (if that is an option?). I know I could delete the alias, but I would prefer to keep it in case I want to try reusing it again in future (it has been my main email for years and I'm quite fond of it).
Does apple delete an alias that has been disabled for a certain amount of time?
Any info gratefully received, doesn't seem to be much online about this topic.
