What happens if I wirelss charge on the disp’ay (Not back)

I’m planning On putting a wireless charging pad next to my night table and since I sometimes check my phone when I’m half asleep in the middle of the night ...it may be a possibility that I mistakenly lay my phone on the pad by the front glass instead of the back

Will it still charge? Will it damage the phone?

I believe it will not charge. I do not know this from personal experience, just my understanding of the technology.

Lumia 920 would charge upside down.

Samsung S3 with aftermarket wireless charging battery wouldn't.

iPhone 8 Plus does not charge face down so I would expect the X to act in the same manner.
I know it’s not necessarily the answer, but you can always activate DND when you charge it at night to avoid notifications.
