What happens to the money you deposited into an ATM, if the ATM got robbed later on before your checks where recovered from the ATM?

Would I still see the money later on, or is it just gone because some ******* decided to rip the ATM out of the wall? Would the bank just honor whatever was entered into the ATM anyway?

This is just out of curiosity because I do make deposits into ATMs all the time, and this thought came into my head when a recent bank of america ATM got ripped out from a bank.

This one of those "Call your bank directly" type of questions. Here we can all speculate and say what we want. Ultimately, the final answer is given by your bank. Best call them.

1. No cash deposits are allowed in ATM machines
2. Lost checks can be almost always voided and re-issued
3. If any investigation is needed, your bank and the authority will do it for you.

1. What do you mean? I insert cash into the ATM all the time, and my bank even has the new ATMs where you can stick the cash straight in and it would count it without an envelope.

2. Not all the time when you're doing freelance.

3. Money can go away randomly due to pending transactions etc., and normally they wouldn't tell you if it was because some guy ripped an ATM out of the wall.

Like I said, your bank, call them up.

Uhhhh... where do you live? I have no problem depositing cash here. Not that I've done it more than, say, twice.

I'd say the deposit is valid from the point of deposition. You are not reliable for what happens to the ATM afterwards. Just like your digital money is save even if the physical bank gets robbed 30 minutes after you deposited some money at the counter.

if you deposit cash, the amount foes into the account immediately and it's irrelevant what happens to the physical bills afterwards, it's now the bank's money.
with checks, it will depend on the system, if you put in an envelope with the checks inside, there might be a problem because nobody could have verified what was in the envelope.

A similar thing has been bothering me recently.

What happens if the plane/truck that is carrying my package crashes before it can deliver it?

That's what shipping insurance is for.

I think some members here had an unfortunate experience like that earlier this year when that FedEx plane crashed in Narita, I believe their Macs they ordered from Apple were on it.
