so i'm rocking the 8.1 b1 because of the vicious battery drain problem with the b2 and the official version. Just curious what happens once the beta 1 expires on Dec 4th? Do i lose all my content?

thanx guys. :))

iOS 8.1 is out. Why don't you just update? No. You won't lose anything.

because as i explained in the two sentences above, there's a nasty battery drain problem and the b1 doesn't have it. But will the phone be usable after the beta expires? Like, what actually happens to the OS?

You'll get locked out of your phone until you basically use iTunes to update it to a version that is being supported at that time. I believe you'll basically get some activation error type of message on the screen and won't be able to do anything.

Your phone stops working. Until you restore it to 8.1 it will not work. Simple as that.

what happens when my iOS 8.1 beta 1 expires?

There's no battery drain issue... The phone just needs to sync itself with the new OS that's all. There would be hundreds of threads about battery life if it really did exist, there are a few reports from people but most have actually edited their initial threads saying the phone is now back to normal after a day or two.

And as others have said, the beta will stop working and you'll have to update regardless.

A screen comes up that says "Activation Required" and you can't do anything with the device when it happens.

People say every version has battery issues, it varies for each device.

You should just upgrade as soon as possible because beta backups can cause worse performance, unless you don't mind if you lose all of your data.

Sorry, but I hate posts like this that casual mention some vague issue is if it's a known, universal, and unfixable problem. There is no "vicious battery drain problem" with iOS 8. If there was, EVERYONE would be complaining about it. Some people get better battery life with 8.1, some people get worse, I imagine most people get about the same. There is no one cause of all these issues. There are about a million different things that can cause excess battery drain, from corrupt settings to cellular connection issues to misbehaving background apps. Most of these things can be tracked down and fixed or worked around.

Rather that trying to hang onto an early beta version forever, you would probably have more luck if you described the problem you're having in detail and what you've done to resolve it. That way people can actually help you.

it was in the 2nd beta and it's in the official release. apple is being incredibly sloppy with this launch and with everything else lately so no, it's not been two days. more like two weeks. thanks.

well if you actually used yosemite from the 1st DP to the 8th you'd know that, that is in fact what happened. Safari did get faster with every release and in DP6 it was much faster than it is now, but they had to pull it back because it was cause a serious battery drain. But of course you know that. ;)

I'm sorry but i think you posted this in the wrong thread because this has nothing to do with my question. If you missed it my question was; what happens once an iOS beta expires? if you know, i'd love it if you could share your answer. Thanks.

If you must ask this question, you should not be "rocking" Betas.

Ran all the Beta's and I am also on 8.1. Never had a "nasty battery drain" issue. Something is running that's draining your battery or you have a faulty device if your battery is draining.

If you're just going by what you read somewhere - don't. Update to 8.1. There is no battery issue.
