I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and a 'family' 2010 iMac. The iMac is only the base i3 model (I say 'only', it's still a great machine), so it doesn't get used for any gaming or video/photo work.

However, it works great for my mum and I occasionally use it for typing as it's nicer having a 21" screen vs 15" when I'm not connected to my TBD.

Erm, a 2.3GHz i5?! 2013 MacBook Pro?! Think you're a bit confused.

Also, no option in the poll for my setup...desktop PC running Windows 7 (rarely use it), a 2010 Mac mini (used for media, file sharing, daily usage and managing the external disk with back-ups on it) and a 2012 MacBook Pro (daily usage and work).

Oops I actually meant early 2011

Not enough options in this poll
I have:

Mid 2011 Mac Mini w/ a 40" Samsung display
Home built PC running Windows 7 w/ a 24" Dell display
Asus ChromeBox w/ a 22" Samsung display
Nexus 7 tablet

Plus a non working 2006 black MacBook, and various other computer related parts I have laying around such as cases, motherboards, video cards, power supplies, hard drives, CD /DVD burners, etc, etc..

Like mentioned the options are a bit limited ...

Especially for my case.

I operate with a minimum of 3 computers.

13" rMBP for general usage and medium stuff (2 VMs, Photoshop and some light FCP X)

15" rMBP for heavy usage (4 VMs, encoding and rendering and coding)

iMac (task dependent)
21.5" for general usage and medium-heavy photo and video editing
27" for heavy 4K editing and gaming

I game so I have a gaming desktop computer and then I use my macbook pro for everything else. Including xcode and Adobe Illustrator.

I also have an iPad 4 and iphone 5.

I did think about replacing my desktop PC with a mac pro though. I had second thoughts about that and instead of doing that I'm just going to upgrade my macbook pro to the retina later this year. The mac pro isn't designed for gaming I think plus I can build something cheaper for gaming.

I've always had at least two computers at home, one desktop and one laptop and possibly more. Recently I had to sell my iMac earlier than expected so I was left with just my MBP for about a month. I was actually very surprised that I didn't really miss the iMac too much, just in the gaming department. I'm not a hardcore gamer (I play WoW, Diabolo 3, Starcraft 2, SimCity, Minecraft). The MBP may lack the horsepower and the 27" screen but it is portable and I'm left wondering if I really need a desktop computer or even more specifically, if I need an iMac.

What kind computer setup do you all have at home? Do you just have the one computer? Or do you have an arrangement like me?

Got rid of everything... Now, it's only one 15" rMBP [ bootcamp w/Windows ] and one 13" MBA.

Gave away iPods, GS4, Note 3, iPhone 5, 3 Windows Laptops, and iPad 4. Even sold the PS3 and XBox 360 [ though did get the PS4 :p ]

Just hanging on to those two Macs, an iPad Air and iPhone 5S.

Keep life simple and enjoy more human interaction! - New Year's resolution! :)

For 10 years we were a one PC desktop family. Half of those years we spent cursing the 3 machines we went through. In 2007 the wife and I decided to each get our own laptops. She stuck with Dell I made the switch to Mac. Two years later she made the switch.

Early this year we both upgraded to rMBPs. At the same time we also cut the cable cord. Because our laptops spend a good amount of time plugged in as our shows our streamed to our TV, I wish we got just 1 rMBP to share (especially since we also have iPads) and an iMac as our "media center".
