Right now I primarily use the current AIM because its fast enough on my 1GHz G4, logs messages, works well with multiple screen names, and most importantly its stable...but there's definitely room for improvement.

I assume that by "current AIM" you're referring to the official AIM client.

For something that logs messages, is easy to switch between SN's, and stable, I think Adium is better. It's so much faster (especially noticable on my 500mhz Cube) and even better, has none of those annoying ads. And Adium is getting better. Version 2 is coming out, and hopefully it will be much better (not that it isn't awesome already).

Yep I meant the official client.

I've tried Adium. Its quick, its simple, its ad-free, it does logging and it does multiple screen names well. But it's given me random errors at times, and as far as I know you can't check users' away messages without sending them a message. Another pet peeve with Adium: you can't look at the URL of a link before clicking on it. In AIM you can view the URL before following it. Great for when you are at work or something and you want to make sure someone isn't linking you to a questionable site.

When Adium 2 comes out I'll check it out, I hope its good!

Like I said in recommendation to someone else, try Proteus. It's an awesome client, that also connects to multiple IM networks (Yahoo, MSN, AIM, ICQ, Jabber) if you need that functionality.
