The best news about this is that the iPad holds less resolution than the latest iPod Touch so viewing ON TABLET then the low quality is masked. But the problem is when you post it to be seen on a computer with better resolution and all the graininess is exposed.
They went with 720p because even that is too much for the screen to handle properly without some downscaling. If the screen were "retina", they would have made it 1080p. iPad 3 will prove this in September.
They say that ignorance is bliss, but I'm not sure this is appropriate here...Yeah, not going to happen. The iPad 2 is thinner than the iPhone. They don't make 1080p camera sensors that tiny, because the quality would be horrible. You are better off with better quality 720p so you aren't wasting your flash memory.
? I said that the content created with the 1MP camera will look fine on board the iPad. But the problem will be much more apparent when viewed on a larger screen through the HDMI connector or viewed on a computer since most have resolution far beyond what the iPad displays. Hows that misinformation?First of all, what do you mean "hold resolution"? Second, you do realize that while the iPhone 4 and iPod touch have "retina" diplays, their actual resolution is still lower than the iPad. It just a high resolution for such a small screen
iPhone 4: 960 x 640
iPad: 1024 x 768

Apple has an extremely skilled engineering department. They are capable of equipping Apple products with the best cameras in the industry.
That said, there is a disconnect somewhere between the various departments.
It seems cost control is overriding Apples golden opportunity to show their amazing expertise.
