As someone who doesn’t naturally get thirsty until I’m literally dehydrating, I appreciate apps like these.
However each I’ve tried sucks and the paywalls are annoying af.

I like Waterllama. I personally treat it as a tracker, not so much a reminder. No notifications turned on. I drink when I feel the need, and record intake afterwards. Some may think it's unnecessary, but it's not a negative activity either, and it helps me pay attention to what I'm drinking. I have limited soda to once per month or less as a result.

Just think—people have been drinking based on the feeling of thirst for thousands of years. How primitive. Luckily, now we have the Apple Watch and apps that remind us to drink. What we really need next is an app that reminds us to eat and go to the bathroom.

and they made a living of some form of physical labor, had a lifespan of maybe 50 years ... why they had going for them is that they did not eat (over)processed food ...

Completed all the levels in my Plant Nanny water tracking app. Also seamlessly integrated with HealthKit and my PeakWatch app.

Been using it since pre pandemic 2019 to 2025

Only thing is that the reminders are great but if you already hit the target of 5 cups of water it will still notify you.

They managed just fine ten years ago without an Apple Watch (or any smartwatch) reminding them to drink water. Their job description and lifespan were probably quite similar to what they are now.

It’s a pointless and unnecessary feature—just one more function to justify buying an Apple Watch that many people don’t actually need. It takes attention away from real life and shifts it to fiddling with a watch. Sure, there are people who genuinely benefit from AW, but they’re a relatively small group.

You'd be more accurate if you amended your comment to say, 'this is pointless and unnecessary to me.' Not everyone has the same needs or desires, and if a reminder that takes a couple of seconds at most to glance at is 'taking attention away from real life,' then we should get rid of virtually all electronics. Anything less would be inconsistent. Are there people who overdo such things? Of course. Does everyone? No.

I use WaterMinder - but then I usually ignore it on the weekends.

I’ve had it long enough that I’ve gotten some entertaining home screens; your selection fills with water as you drink and tilts with the phone. I’m currently on Iron Man just because it makes me smile.

It takes into account the gain (or lack) of hydration for different H2O intake for coffee, soda, milk, OJ, water.

I have it set to remind me every hour and a half between 9am and 9pm. The app on the watch works pretty well, too. I tended to struggle with bouts of dehydration, but getting better. Best on your hydration goals!
