Since the rumors for the next iPhone SE sounds really meagre, what if Apple discontinues the 2nd Gen iPhone SE this year when the iPhone 14 releases and makes the 12 Mini to $449
And the 12 Mini already has the upgrades were hearing about like 5G and better cameras and also has the better display and design
This is just a thought, what do you guys think

They won't be.

iPhone 12 mini doesn't have the economies of scale. More importantly, it failed in sales numbers, so why would Apple try it again?

iPhone 11 just dropped to $499 in September and continues to sell well. Apple doesn't need to punch themselves in the gut and lower the price again before the 12-month mark.

I think the iPhone XR/11 form factor, with the latest processor and 5g would be awesome value for consumers. I can’t see the iPhone 8 supplying enough juice to power 5g for any decent period of time.

The current SE is not even enough for 4G today, let alone 5G.

Or the 11 could take place as the new SE, it actually doesn't make a lot of sense for apple to sell the same design from 2017 in 2022
This would only happen if Apple just discontinue the SE and keep the iPhone 11 at reduced price when the 14 launches this September. It's possible.

So we won't see any SE this year. When September comes, the SE will be gone. The iPhone 11 drops to $449 with 128GB as the base and only model. 128GB 12 mini at $549 will be next tier up. Makes sense to me.

And Apple just flipped the table on all the tech bloggers making up the rumors so far... :D

This could also happen

But...

The markets like 'NEW' product launches as it grabs headlines, advertising etc. So a newer SE launch even with just a 5G modem, ticks that box.

Apple doesn't need the SE. They have the new iPad Air nad new macs in their lineup. Besides, it would be strange advertising a new SE with 5G, while the more expensive iPhone 11 is still 4G. It's probably more likely that Apple would follow the 2016 SE pattern, ie. discontinue the 2020 SE for this year, leaving the iPhone 11 as the cheapest iPhone, then in 2023/2024, release a 5G SE replacing the 11.

Who knows. The rumors are all over the place.
