If they don't make a larger screen, they're gonna have a heck of a time packing in enough new features to attract new customers and upgraders.

Battery life can only get so much better by next year. The screen can only get so much better, if at all. The chip can only get so much faster. Most people don't care about RAM specs, and Apple doesn't even advertise them. They've pretty much passed on NFC. The phone is dangerously thin as it is. Painting a 5S different colors and renaming it isn't an option.

So I don't see much left for them to improve in 12 months, besides screen size, unless they think the masses will be content with basically another 5S...a 5SS.

I sure hope not. As a user of both platforms, part of why I love the iPhone is its smaller form factor. The Nexus 4's 4.7" screen is TOO huge. I don't want a huge phone that looks like I have a boner in my pocket or am holding up an iPad to my face. If I want a bigger screen for something, that's what a tablet is for.

I think it's possible they keep the 4 inch screen on one of the models. I think they will release a bigger model and a model the same size we have now.

I'm guessing a slightly bigger screen iphone 6 that looks very similar to the 5/5s, and an iphone 5c type phone that basically takes all the internals and touch id from the current 5s.

I mostly agree, except for the bit about battery life. A slight size increase and higher integration of components plus maybe a thinner screen assembly to allow battery capacity to be increased plus a switch to IGZO screen technology and prioritising reduced power consumption over doubling the performance each generation for the SoC, plus optimising the hell out of iOS as far as battery use is concerned, could all come together to give a pretty significant boost to battery life at some point, and I hope that point is next year.

iPhone 6 will have a 4.3" or 4.5" screen with an overall size similar to the iPhone 5/5s. The phone will be slightly wider but no taller. A smaller bezel will allow the phone to remain near the same size as the 5/5s.

I agree with that. A 4.3" screen could actually fit in the same form factor but my guess is a 4.5" screen with only a tiny increase in size, maybe 4 or 5mm wider and the same thickness. For height they might keep that the same but I wouldn't be too surprised to see maybe the same 4 or 5mm change (increase) in the height to give a bit more space to increase the total internal volume available for the battery.

I've just switched from an iPhone 4 to a 5 (not a 5s) and the one thing that's really amazed me about my new 5 is how light and thin it is compared to my old 4. It's made me realise that the two features that I want most for the 6 are for it to maintain the wonderfully low weight and small size of the 5/5s as much as possible, especially the weight.

I would like a bigger screen but I want Apple to do it right and for me that means minimal increases, if any, in size and weight and a noticeable increase in battery life. Because of those constraints, which I hope Apple share, I can't see them going bigger than 4.5"

I think this is what we will see. Same size phone roughly but like a 4.3 inch screen

I want a complete redesign. The 5 design is nice but I enjoy change.
I agree with that as well.

Also, the increase from the 3.5" screen of the 4 up to the 4.0" screen of the 5 was done while at the same time reducing the weight significantly. I suspect the biggest factor that made this possible was changing the materials and moving from a glass to an aluminium back. I wonder whether Apple might be able to do anything really clever with a new case design to get another round of weight savings, possibly an all-in-one carbon fibre case rather than aluminium.

Carbon fibre doesn't have to have that textured look that the aftermarket back stickers have, Sony produced a very expensive ultra portable laptop a while back (5 or even 10 years ago) that had a flat-finish carbon fibre body with a finish not dissimilar to the slate colour of the iPhone 5. In my opinion that could be amazing although I have no idea whether it could be coloured to produce the white version as well.

I love how people say 4 inches is the perfect size and any bigger wouldn't fit in your pocket. So your telling me you wouldn't take the one on the left form factor wise over the one on the right.

Thats a 4.7 inch vs a 4.0 inch in essentially the same size phone. Its not even much wider either.

People are not to smart..The really seem to not get it or really are brainwashed. Anyone that says they do not want a larger phone now, then gets one once Apple releases it are sheep.

Better look again. It is not essentially the same. Too wide in my opinion and it just doesn't look good either

Actually Apple can make the next phone (6) with the same display and have the following to get customers to phony up..

1. NFC

2. Better Battery

3. Better Camera

4. Upgraded CPU

5. Upgraded GPU

6. Better Display

7. Stronger Display..Gorilla Glass 4 perhaps

8. Stronger Body Shell

9. Possibly a slightly 4.3 inch Display with same form factor

Done. They will come in the millions....Again

OH - MAH - GAWD! If I wanted to use somthing THAT huge, Id use my iPad!! :D

Id laugh and laugh if they only went a *little* wider, and milked that for two years before going to anywhere close to 5".
I would actually like that. Coming from a Nexus 4 the height of the screen wasn't annoying but the narrow width was. I'd be happy with a little wider screen. It would make landscape browsing feasible too.

Look at the front view. Its barely any wider. The diagonal view is misleading since the moto x is blocking the side of the iphone. I made you a nice comparison. The difference in width is negligible and I don't think people would have an issue if the width increased more than this anyway.

If they can decrease the bezel and make the screen edge to edge then I'm down for that. Same size as the current 5/5s but larger screen and thinner.

Then throw in a new design and new material and a couple more features and there's your iphone 6.

I want to believe you, but honestly the phones shown can be a bit forward or backward of the other giving the impression of it being some what wider, but I did have both in my hands a few days ago, and the iphone 5s felt more comfortable in my hands. (Big hands at that) :D

Apple may provide two sizes but if not, and they go as wide as some Samsungs, than It's a no go for me. This is why I purchase Apple phones over the competition. It just feels right for me, no matter how much better the specs are or a wider display. I just like Apples more mature looking phones.

I would dig it.

The iPhone 6 will increase to a 4.3-4.5 inch screen and the new 5c will maintain the 4 inch screen. Those who want to stay small can get the 5c, those who want a larger screen will get the 6.

I don't know why there's all this debate and comparing of pictures. A simple google search pulls up the specs. The Moto x is 65.3mm wide and the iPhone 5s is 58.6mm wide. That's a difference of 6.7mm. Source: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/09/1...galaxy-note-3-vs-moto-x-vs-galaxy-s4-vs-more/

The thicknesses are quite different though, the Moto X is 10.4mm vs the iphone 5s at 7.6mm, that's a big percentage difference and contributes to an iphone 5/5s feeling so unobtrusive in the pocket. I also believe that because the iPhone 5 is so thin it could do with being just a bit wider, especially if the bezels get a lot narrower. if the overall phone is too narrow then all but a child's hands will have the tendency for the tips of the fingers to wrap round the front edge of the phone and obscure a bit of the edge of the screen. With the bigger bezels on the iPhone 5 that doesn't matter but if the screen is going all the way to the edge then it would be more of an issue.

Also compare the weights. the Moto X is 130g vs the iphone 5s at 112g. That's actually pretty impressive for the Moto X and at 140g it shows how heavy the iphone 4/4s was.

For me it really comes down to the thickness and the weight, I don't mind a few mm on the width and the height in return for a bigger screen.

I think they will go big screen, small form factor. Something like the moto x. I don't see apple making a big device, they will come up with something to keep the phone as small as the screen (as much as possible).
